KYLE, Texas - The IUPUI women's golf team put up rounds of 322 and 317 to open the spring portion of its schedule on Monday (Feb. 6) on day one of the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course. Junior
Madeleine Pape is 26th overall at 157 (77-80) and fifth-year senior
Kara Blair is tied for 29th at 158 (79-79).
Collectively, IUPUI's 639 has them staring up at the other seven teams in the field as host Texas State is atop the leaderboard at 578. Cincinnati is second at 603 and Lamar is third at 606. TSU's Marine Griffaut and UC's Katie Hallinan are tied atop the leaderboard at an even par 142 heading into Tuesday's final round.
The morning round saw Pape put up a fairly clean 18 with a birdie and 10 pars to account for her 6-over 77. Blair and
Yanah Rolston, who was playing as an individual, both put up rounds of 79 and
Shelby Busker shot an 82, including back-to-back birdies on a pair of par-4's.
Annaliese Fox had a round of 84 and
Nerea Lancho shot 86.
Fox carded an afternoon round of 78 and Blair shot a 79 with a pair of birdies. Lancho, Pape and Rolston all carded rounds of 80 and Busker came in at 81.
IUPUI struggled with the winds and putting and had just 12 birdies as a team on Monday. Both Pape and Blair had a team-high three birdies on the tournament's opening day.
Tuesday's final round is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. Central.
