DAYTON, Ohio – The IUPUI women's basketball team fell in their Horizon League season opener against the Wright State Raiders on Thursday night, 79-67. Junior
Logan Lewis recorded her first career double-double while
Faith Stinson also recorded a career-high 14 points.
IUPUI scored the first two points of the game with
Abby Wolterman laying in two points. After a jumper from the Raiders,
Faith Stinson extended the lead with a three at 5-2 but the lead didn't last long as Wright State went on a 6-0 run. IUPUI fell behind by nine before the quarter break at 18-9.
The Jags tried to close the gap in the second quarter shooting 42.1 percent from the field. Freshman
Alexa Hocevar got involved with a layup to end the second quarter, 37-31. IUPUI and Wright State went basket-for-basket in the third quarter as the Raiders kept the lead at 58-52.
After falling behind by ten points, the Jags fought back to bring the score within one.
Camron Blank came up with a huge three-pointer to cut the lead to one at 60-59. The final effort wasn't enough as the Raiders closed out the game on a 8-2 run to extend the lead to 79-67.
IUPUI finished the night shooting 38.1 percent from the field, including a 35.7 percent from three. Wright State shot a team percentage of 42.0 from the field and 46.7 from behind the arc.
Katie Davidson scored a team high 16 points with two rebounds and five steals while Davidson totaled a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Lewis earned her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Abby Wolterman also added nine points and four rebounds.
The Jags fall to 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in Horizon League play. They will return to the Jungle on Sunday, December 3 when they host the Milwaukee Panthers for a 2:00 PM tip.
