ATHENS, Ohio – Four Jaguars tallied double-digit points as the IUPUI women's basketball team fell on the road at Ohio on Sunday, November 26, 75-71. Sophomore
Abby Wolterman scored a career-high 16 points in the loss.
IUPUI scored first with
Katie Davidson securing the first two points followed by
Jaela Johnson giving the Jags the 4-0 lead. IUPUI held the lead until the four minute mark in the first quarter when the Bobcats tied it up at 11. After a few back-and-forth baskets, Ohio held the one point advantage after the first quarter at 18-17.
Johnson once again gave the Jags a lead with a three-point basket to start the second quarter, 20-18. Ohio answered quickly and eventually took their largest lead of eight in the first half at 38-30. At the half, the Jags we're down by four at 43-39.
The Bobcats came out in the third quarter shooting 76.9 percent from three to take a nine point lead at 64-55. The Jaguars fought hard in the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to bring the score within two. The Bobcats once again sunk a three-pointer to extend their lead. IUPUI saw one more chance within two points with nine seconds left but Ohio's Jaya McClure secured the lead with two free throws at 75-71.
Tahlia Walton led the Jags with 18 points and seven rebounds while Davidson added 17 and Wolterman totaled her career-high 16. Johnson also finished in double-digit points with 10. IUPUI shot 44.3 percent from the field and just 15.0 percent from behind the arc while Ohio finished the game with a 52.4 percent from three.
The Jags drop to 1-5 and will now begin Horizon League play when they travel to Wright State on Thursday, November 30. The Raiders and Jaguars will tipoff at 7:00 PM.
