INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will close out its non-conference slate this week when the Jaguars host a pair of matches at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. Head coach
Chris Johnson's squad will welcome Murray State on Thursday night (Sept. 8) at 6:00 p.m. before hosting Evansville on Sunday (Sept. 11) at 4:00 p.m.. Thursday's contest with Murray State will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Greg Rakestraw (pxp) calls the action.
IUPUI (2-0-3) comes in undefeated through the season's opening three weeks and has played opponents to scoreless draws in each of its past three outings. The Jaguars come in leading the Horizon League in shutouts (4) and fewest goals allowed (2) through five games. The Jags haven't yielded a score in 305 minutes, having blanked Bellarmine, Western Illinois and Belmont in succession. In goal, sophomore
Ashton Kudlo ranks No. 40 in the country with a 0.46 goals against average while freshman
Cailynn Junk has yet to allow a score in either of her two appearances.
Offensively, IUPUI tallied three of its four goals on the year in the 3-2 win at SIUE after opening the year with a 1-0 win at Tennessee Tech. Senior
Maya Lacognato has two of the team's four goals while
Emma Antoine and
Emma Frey account for the other two scores. Johnson has relied heavily on a talented freshman class in the season's early going as Frey,
Kailyn Smith and
Sophia White rank among the team's top five in minutes played. White and senior
Maya Turner continue to anchor a back line that has been stingy in terms of allowing shots. IUPUI's foes are attempting just 9.2 tries per game
QUOTABLE
"(At Belmont) we had better quality chances than the Bellarmine game and more chances than the Western (Illinois) game. It keeps getting better, but we need to be more efficient in terms of capitalizing on those opportunities we are creating," Johnson said following the draw at Belmont.
SCOUTING MURRAY STATE
Murray State enters play at 0-4-1 on the year and 0-3 on the road. The Racers are coming off a 2-2 draw against UT Martin for their first result of the season. Morgan Bodker leads Murray State with two goals and Chloe Barnthouse has a goal and an assist. The MSU goalkeeping duo Jamie Skarupsky and Janna Villacres have a 2.40 goals against average and .520 save percentage in five games. Skarupsky has started three of the Racers' five games with a 2.67 GAA.
SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
Evansville enters the week at 1-1-2 on the season and will play at Southeast Missouri State on Thursday (Sept. 8). The Purple Aces' lone win of the year came over Morehead State and they also own draws with Austin Peay and SIUE. UE's lone loss of the season came to Vanderbilt in their season opener. Emily Ormson has two of the team's three goals and Sophia Rodil has the other score. In goal, Myia Danek has started three of the team's four games and owns a 1.33 goals against average and .765 save percentage.
