IUPUI DEFEATS BELLARMINE TO CLOSE OUT INVITATIONAL, 3-1

Briana Brown recorded a season-high 21 kills to lead the attack

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Briana Brown and freshman Morgan Ostrowski each recorded season-highs in kills to lead the Jaguar attack and defeat Bellarmine on Saturday, 3-1. IUPUI finished the Hawthorn Suites Louisville East Bellarmine Invitational 2-1.

"I'm so proud of how this team played through the weekend," said head coach Lindsey Froehlich. "We talked about having higher standards for ourselves by being more competitive this weekend in specific areas of our game, and what it looks like. Today we played some of our best volleyball so far this year! Coming off a loss last night, it really showed that we are growing as a team. It was great to see everyone invested and engaged both on and off the court!"

In the opening set of the match, IUPUI went back and forth with Bellarmine but fell 29-27. In set one, the Jags hit only .140 with 11 attack errors. IUPUI improved their hitting in set two to .333 with only four errors and 17 kills to earn the 25-22 set win.

The Jags continued their hitting dominance, hitting .469 with just two attack errors and 17 kills to take set three 25-20. IUPUI took set four 25-18 to earn the 3-1 victory. Overall, the Jaguars hit .280 with a total of 65 kills compared to Bellarmine's .126 with 43 kills.

Brown led the attack with a season-high 21 kills followed by Allie Pogue with 13 kills. Freshman Morgan Ostrowski added a career-high 12 kills with Millai Madison also collected 12 kills. Darragh Dixon earned 32 assists with a team-high 13 digs while Addie Evans added 12 digs. Emma Ashcraft and Brown each added a service ace.

"Seeing the team be successful is an awesome feeling, I believe it really displays that everyone is doing what they need to do in this individual role," said senior Darragh Dixon. " For our team especially I know that I can rely on all my teammates to support me and that we all help pick each other up when we're down. Having reliable teammates is one of the most important keys in creating success."

IUPUI leaves Louisville, 2-1 on the weekend and 4-5 overall. Dixon and Ostrowski were each named to the Hawthorn Suites Louisville East Bellarmine Invitational All-Tournament Team.

"Darragh and Morgan both really stepped up this weekend," said Froehlich. "Darragh ran our offense well and put our hitters in some great situations. Morgan added a spark to ur offense, taking some big swings when we needed them."

The Jags will travel to Peoria, Illinois next weekend (Sept. 16-17) for the Bradley Invitational with Bradley, St. Thomas and Western Michigan.
