CHICAGO, Ill. – Tied heading into the fifth frame,
Jaylin Calvert singled to right field to score
Morgan Gilbert and lead the Jags to victory in game one of the Saturday doubleheader, 4-3. IUPUI fell in the second game to the Flames, 4-3.
In game one, IUPUI took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after
Victoria Sivert singled to score
Jaida Speth. The Flames took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on four hits.
The Jags tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth frame with a bases loaded walk to Sivert to score Speth. In the top of the fifth inning, IUPUI retook the lead 3-2 with a single from Calvert to score Gilbert. In the seventh inning, the Jags added one insurance run to extend their lead to 4-2 when
Amber Pagan grounded into a double play which scored Calvert from third.
The Flames scored one run in the bottom half of the inning and with runners in scoring position, Calvert made a diving catch in centerfield to record the third out and seal the 4-3 win.
Madison Bryant earned the win on the mound for the Jags giving up three runs (one unearned) on six hits. Calvert and Speth each went 2-for-4.
In game two, the Jags fell to UIC, 4-3. UIC took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with three runs on three hits. IUPUI tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth frame.
Rachael Gregory doubled to left center to score
Kasie Keyes followed by a two-run double from
Hailey Pop.
UIC retook the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning with one run on one hit.
Isabelle Waggner took the loss on the mound giving up four runs on six hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Morgan Gilbert went 3-for-4 with one run while Speth went 2-for-4.
IUPUI and UIC close out the three-game series Sunday, May 8 when they face off at 2:00 PM.
