JAGUARS ADD JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFER FOR 2022-2023 CAMPAIGN

John Egbuta becomes IUPUI's eighth addition for 2022-23 season

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department and head basketball coach Matt Crenshaw announced the addition of junior college swingman John Egbuta to a National Letter of Intent to join the Jaguars for the upcoming season. Egbuta, a 6-foot-6 forward, played last season at Albany Tech where he earned Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) First Team All-Region honors. Egbuta averaged 15.5 points per game, ranking fifth in the league in that category.

"John's a really mature young man who's going to come in and make an immediate impact. He's explosive off the bounce. That's what excites us is that he's super athletic and really strong," Crenshaw said. "He can impact the game in a number of ways. He gets after it on the glass, he can defend a lot of different positions and makes plays through hard work and hustle. His jump shot has come a long ways too, so he can step out and make shots. We're excited to get him and see how he fits in with the rest of this class."

Egbuta averaged 15.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game at Albany Tech (Ga.) last season while shooting 61.1 percent overall and 34.8 percent from three-point range. He scored in double-digits 24 times and had 10 games in which he tallied 20-or-more. He scored a season-high 33 points against a tough Indian River squad, hitting 13-of-17 shots and 5-of-6 from three-point range.

Egbuta began his college career at State Fair (Mo.) College where he averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game as a true freshman in 2019-20. He spent the 2020-21 season at Navarro College but was limited to just four games due to injury. He prepped at Springfield Commonwealth Academy.

Egbuta becomes IUPUI's eighth addition for the 2022-2023 campaign.
