CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IUPUI women's track and field team got seven personal bests at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on Saturday (Apr. 2), keyed by a new school record in the 400m hurdles by senior
Marie Terry. Terry collected runner-up honors in the event and lowered her own school record by nearly a full second in the process, crossing at 1:01.89.Â
Earlier in the day, senior
Kelly Zehnder had strong efforts in both of her events, leading the Jaguars in both the long jump (5.01m / 16' 5.25'') and triple jump (10.36m / 34' 0''). Her long jump mark was just off her outdoor best, missing by one-hundredth of a meter.
Lauren Palmer jumped 4.30m (14' 1.25'') in the long jump and 9.88m (32' 8'') in the triple jump.
Mikayla Miller cleared 1.46m (4' 9.5'') in the high jump and just missed a personal best in the javelin on Friday afternoon (Apr. 1) with a best throw of 29.54 (96' 11'').Â
On the track, IUPUI had a banner day on Saturday, despite less than optimal conditions.Â
Kara Krol paced IUPUI's entries in the 1,500m event with a time of 5:06.74 while
Sabrina Elder was tops among the 800m entries at 2:17.22.Â
That set the stage for Terry's effort in the 400m hurdles as she finished second to Miami (Ohio)'s Sarah Bruns. Freshman
Katie Moore clocked a personal best time of 1:05.61 in her second career entry in the event.Â
"I was feeling confident going into the race because we've been training pretty hard during practice and it paid off," Terry said. "I'm glad I could run a good time despite the weather being cold."
In the 5,000m event, the Jaguars recorded five outdoor bests, keyed by
Ellie Cates and classmate
Madison Fry. Cates spun the fourth-best 5K in program history with a time of 17:32.20 and Fry followed with the fifth-best effort, crossing at 17:34.23. Both entered the meet with outdoor best times of 18:10.
"Madison and I working together in every single workout has really prepared us to work together in races," Cates said. "If one of us isn't feeling great, the other will pull them along for the ride.Â
"I'm super grateful to have a teammate like Madison."
Hannah Sale clocked an outdoor best time of 18:10.52 and freshman
Laci Provenzano spun a time of 18:30.93, taking 28 seconds off her initial effort of the year.
Claire Mehling rounded out the entries with a time of 19:32.28.Â
IUPUI will return to action on Apr. 8-9 when the Jaguars compete in the Illini Classic.Â
