YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The IUPUI softball team split their Saturday doubleheader against Youngstown State. The Jags dropped game one, 2-1 but recovered in game two with 14 hits to lead them to a 7-2 victory.
In game one, Youngstown State defeated the Jags, 2-1, in a pitchers dual. The Penguins got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs on a walk and hit by pitch.
In the top of the seventh inning the Jags cut the lead in half, 2-1, with a solo home run by
Jordan Barnes but it wasn't enough as the Penguins closed out the game and sealed the 2-1 win.
Madison Bryant (L, 3-13) took the loss on the mound giving up two runs on only one hit with seven strikeouts. Youngstown State held the Jags to just one run on two hits.

The Jags recovered in game two with 14 hits defeating the Penguins, 7-2. IUPUI took the early lead in the top of the first inning with a single from Barnes to score
Maicey Bedrick. In the bottom half of the inning, Youngstown State evened the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the fourth frame, Gregory hit her first home run of the season with a two-run shot over the right field fence giving the Jags a 3-1 lead. Then in the top of the fifth inning, Gregory collected her third and fourth RBI of the game with a single through the right side scoring Gilbert and Keyes extending IUPUI's lead to 5-1.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Jags added two insurance runs, 7-1.

Kendal Calvert and Gregory scored on a wide pitch.
The Penguins scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run from Nikki Saibene making the final score 7-2.
Isabelle Waggner (W, 2-3) earned the win on the mound throwing a complete game giving up two runs on six hits with one strikeout. Gregory led the way at the plate for the Jags finishing the game 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs.
Kendal Calvert went 2-for-3 with two runs while
Jaylin Calvert and Barnes each recorded two hits in the win.
IUPUI (6-24, 4-4 HL) looks to win the weekend series with one game tomorrow (Sunday, April 3) against Youngstown State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
