JAGS BEST CARDINALS IN MIDWEEK MATCHUP, 8-3

Mackenzie Myars and Abbey Haas each homered in the win

INDIANAPOLIS – With ten hits, including homers by Mackenzie Myars and Abbey Haas, the Jaguars defeat Ball State on Tuesday afternoon, 8-3. IUPUI improves to 9-26 overall.
 
Ball State (13-22) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With runners on second and third, Amaia Daniel singled up the middle to score Samantha-Jo Mata and give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Delanie Johnson hit a bases clearing double to right center to extend the Cards lead to 3-0.
 
IUPUI cut that lead to one in the bottom half of the first inning, 3-2. Rachael Gregory walked, then with two outs, Myars launched her third home run of the season over the left center wall to cut the deficit to one.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Jags tied it up then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amber Pagan walked followed by a single from Haas to put runners on first and second. Freshman Kendal Calvert singled to right center to score Pagan and tie the game at 3-3. Morgan Gilbert walked to load the bases for Gregory. Gregory hit an infield single to score Haas and give the Jaguars the 4-3 lead. Kendal Calvert scored off a wild pitch to extend their lead to 5-3.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning Haas homered to left center to score Pagan and extend the Jaguars' lead to 7-3.
 
IUPUI added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth frame to seal the lead at 8-3. Gilbert led the inning off with an infield single followed by an RBI double by Jaida Speth.
 
The Jaguars totaled 10 hits in the win. Gilbert went 3-for-3 with a run while Haas went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Kendal Calvert also went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Gregory, Jaida Speth, and Myars all recorded one hit.
 
Carly Metcalf earned her second win of the season allowing just three runs (one unearned) on three hits with two strikeouts in five innings pitched. Jasmin Speth finished out the game throwing two scoreless innings and giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.
 
IUPUI will travel to Moon Township, Penn. this weekend to face Horizon League foe Robert Morris. The Jags will play one game on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 PM and two games on Saturday, April 16 with the first game starting at 1:00 PM.
