INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI golf team got final round 76's from sophomore
Kevin Tillery and redshirt freshman
Morgan Tournemire on the final day of the Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf and Country Club on Tuesday (Mar. 29). Tournemire finished tied for 29th among the 98-player field at 7-over 147 (71-76) for the week.
Tournemire got to even par midway through his round in chilly temperatures on Tuesday, making birdies on hole Nos. 4 and 7 to offset two early bogeys. Winds picked up over the course of the day and scoring became more difficult as Tournemire ultimately closed at 76. Tillery did virtually the opposite, overcoming a slow start to later maintain his round of 76 which included a birdie on the short par-4, No. 6.
Sophomore
Josh Yoder ended his round at 79 and his tournament at 154 (75-79), just behind Tillery's 153 (77-76).
Preston Nanthavong rounded out the group with a final round 155 (75-80), largely hindered by three bad holes. Nanthavong played three holes - his first and final two of the day - to eight over, while playing the other 15 holes to 2-over on the day.
Tournemire finished the tournament with a team-high four birdies while Tillery and Nanthavong had a team-high 22 pars over 36 holes. Tillery and Tournemire were particularly impressive on the par-3's, each playing them to 1-over for the week.
Valparaiso captured the team title at 9-over 569 (279-290), outpacing host Butler by six shots and third-place Morehead State by seven. The trio of James Hill (Detroit Mercy), Anthony Delisanti (Valpo) and Luke Armbrust (Illinois) finished atop the leaderboard at 1-under 139.
The Jaguars will return to action on Apr. 9-10 when they compete in the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind.
