INDIANAPOLIS – With back-to-back run rule wins in today's doubleheader, the Jags swept the three-game weekend over the Titans. In game one IUPUI run ruled Detroit Mercy in five innings, 8-0 and the Jags took the second game in six innings, 11-3.
Jaylin Calvert and
Mackenzie Myars each recorded a home run on the day while
Isabelle Waggner picked up her first win of the season in game one and
Madison Bryant earned her third win of the year in game two.
In game one, IUPUI (5-22, 3-3 HL) defeated Detroit Mercy (0-19, 0-9 HL) in five innings, 8-0. IUPUI jumped on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Ashley Shelton led the inning off with a double to right center. With two outs,
Jaylin Calvert homered to right field to give the Jags the 2-0 lead.
IUPUI scored five runs in the bottom of the third frame.
Maicey Bedrick doubled down the left field line, then
Hailey Pop reached on a fielder's choice and Shelton singled to load the bases for
Jordan Barnes. Barnes then doubled to center field to score Bedrick and Pop.
Kasie Keyes walked to reload the bases. With two outs
Morgan Gilbert hit a bases-clearing double to left center to extend the Jaguar's led to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Jags scored one to walk-it off in run rule fashion. Shelton singled to right field followed by a bunt by Barnes. The Titans committed two errors on the bunt to allow Barnes to reach base and Shelton to score to seal the game one victory for the Jags, 8-0.
Isabelle Waggner (W, 1-3) earned her first career win with the Jaguars throwing a complete game shutout giving up only two hits. She struck out two batters in the win. Shelton went 3-for-3 with a double. Gilbert drove in three runs while
Jaylin Calvert and Barnes each collected two RBI.
IUPUI continued the hot streak in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Kendal Calvert and
Rachael Gregory earned back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. They each moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Bedrick then hit a sacrifice fly to score Calvert followed by a groundout by Pop to score Gregory to give the Jags the early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning the Jags scored three more runs to extend their lead to 5-0. Barnes was hit by pitch.
Lauren Youngblood entered the game to run for Barnes and stole second then scored after Gilbert reached via a throwing error by the Titan's second baseman.
Kendal Calvert walked then Gregory doubled to left center scoring Gilbert and Calvert.
After a scoreless third inning the Jaguars scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth frame extending their lead to 7-0. Keyes led the inning off with a single to second base. Gilbert reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman to put runners in scoring position.
Kendal Calvert reached on a fielder's choice scoring Keyes. After a walk to Gregory and one out Bedrick hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Gilbert.
The Titians fought back in the top of the fifth inning with three runs on three hits cutting the Jaguar's lead to 7-3.
IUPUI got back two of those runs in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer by Myars, 9-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Jags once again walked it off with a run rule scoring two runs on two hits and one error.
Kendal Calvert singled with a bunt and Gregory reached on a throwing error by Detroit Mercy's third baseman allowing Calvert to score. With one out, Bedrick doubled to left center to score Gregory and seal the 11-3 win over the Titians.
Madison Bryant earned the win on the mound for the Jags throwing a complete game with three runs on four hits and seven strikeouts. Gregory and Bedrick each collected three RBI while Myars added in two RBI.
After the weekend sweep, IUPUI will travel to Miami (OH) for a single game on Tuesday (March 29) starting at 5:00 PM ET.
