INDIANAPOLIS – With their 11th straight victory, the IUPUI women's basketball team improves to 16-5 and 13-3 in the Horizon League with a win over Detroit Mercy on Sunday afternoon, 66-49.
Macee Williams collected 18 rebounds in the win and became IUPUI's all-time leader in rebounds with 1,178 in her career, passing Jernisha Cann (1,172). While Williams dominated in that area, senior
Rachel McLimore lead all scorers with 22 points.
"
Rachel McLimore changed the dynamic of the game with her aggressive mentality in the first half," said head coach
Austin Parkinson. "I am also really proud of Macee becoming the all-time leading rebounder. Her consistency, effort and timing has been incredible over the years in that area."
Williams adds all-time leader in rebounds to her long list of accomplishments, as she is also the all-time leader in scoring at IUPUI. She added to that total with 15 points in today's win, sealing her ninth double-double of the season. Meanwhile
Rachel Kent and
Natalie Andersen helped in the attack each scoring in the double-digits with 10 points.
Madison Wise added four points and eight rebounds while
Destiny Perkins followed with three points.
Logan Lewis came off the bench to score two points late in the fourth quarter.
Although the Jags outscored Detroit by 17 and put up 14 points compared to the Titans seven in the first quarter, Detroit Mercy never gave up and continued to work. The Titans almost doubled their scoring in the second quarter with 13.
"I want to give credit to Detroit in the way they competed. It would have been easy for them to fold the tent, but they played hard the entire game."
The Jags held the pressure on the Titans, forcing 16 turnovers and holding Detroit Mercy to 35.1 percent (20-of-57) from the floor. IUPUI took their largest lead of the game of 21 points with 2:40 left in the third quarter.
IUPUI is still tied at the top of the Horizon League with Youngstown State and will travel to Wright State on Thursday (Feb. 10) at 6:00 PM.
