JAGUARS DEFEAT RAIDERS TO EARN 12TH STRAIGHT VICTORY, 73-60

Rachel McLimore led all players with 22 points

DAYTON, Ohio -  The IUPUI Jaguars (17-5, 14-3 HL) held off the Wright State Raiders (2-19, 1-15 HL) on the road for their 12th straight win Thursday night, 73-60. Rachel McLimore led all players with 22 points for the second game in a row, while Macee Williams collected another double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Raider guards Destyne Jackson and Jada Roberson each notched 18 points in defeat, and senior center Jada Wright had eight points and eight boards. The final score does not indicate how close this game was, with Wright State fighting to the bitter end.

Anyone expecting IUPUI to dominate from the get-go was disappointed. Wright State slowed the Jaguar offense by denying entry passes to Williams down low, and IUPUI was only up 12-9 after five minutes of action. At that point, long-range shooting from McLimore and Perkins sparked an 11-0 run for the Jaguars, who ended the quarter up 23-13.

The Raiders fought back, compiling a 10-0 run of their own through the end of the first frame and the beginning of the second. Senior center Jada Wright did an admirable job containing Williams at times, while Roberson and Jackson paced the Wright State attack. Morgan Allen provided four timely points for IUPUI late, and the Jaguars reached halftime up 41-30. However, they only managed to outscore the Raiders 18-17 in the second frame—and the Raiders did not go away.

Wright State opened the third quarter on an extended 16-5 run, and Deesh Beck tied the game at 46-46 with a finger-roll at the 4:36 mark. The Raiders outscored the Jaguars 19-15 in the stanza, but IUPUI managed to escape up 56-49 due to free throws from Natalie Andersen and Anna Mortag near the end of the third.

Neither team shot a good percentage in the last stanza, but the Jaguars had more left in the tank. Williams and McLimore sparked a 12-4 run that re-established a double-digit lead for IUPUI. Roberson scored five points in the final two minutes, but it wasn't enough. (Wright fouled out with 17 seconds left).

Ultimately, the Jaguars scored 38 percent from the floor, hitting just 9-of-26 from beyond the arc despite being the Horizon League's top team from deep. More peculiarly, the Jaguars were outmatched 12-11 in second chance points despite an 18-10 edge in offensive rebounds. Wright State shot just under 41 percent.

Nonetheless, IUPUI momentarily surpasses Youngstown State for the top place in Horizon League rankings. Wright State remains second-to-last. The Jaguars next face Northern Kentucky (16-5, 10-4 HL) on the road for a 2 PM Saturday matinee on ESPN+.
