BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The IUPUI softball team started the Blazer Invite in Birmingham, Alabama today with two games, the first against Austin Peay and the second at UAB. The Jaguars fell to Austin Peay in five innings, 14-4, in the first game and lost to UAB in five innings, 8-0, to finish out the night.
 
In the first game, Austin Peay (8-3) took an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI single from Brooke Pfefferle followed by a grand slam off the bat of Mea Clark. The Governors extended their lead to 12-0 with seven runs on five hits in the second inning. They added two more runs in the third inning with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
 
The Jags got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Lauren Youngblood doubled then came around to score on a groundout RBI from Morgan Gilbert. IUPUI scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI groundout from Victoria Sivert to score Rachael Gregory. Jaida Speth then singled through the left side to score Jaylin Calvert, 14-3. The Jags added one more run when Kendal Calvert scored off a fielder's choice.
 
Kendal Calvert went 2-for-3 with a double. Gilbert, Amber Pagan, Gregory, Jaida Speth and Youngblood all recorded hits in the game. Carly Metcalf took the loss giving up seven runs on five hits.
 
In game two, the Jags were run ruled in five innings by UAB, 8-0. UAB (5-7) scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run from Lilly Crowe and a three-run home run from Sierra Frazier. The Blazers extended their lead to 8-0 in the third inning with four runs on four hits.  
 
Jaida Speth recorded the sole hit for the Jags in game two. Madison Bryant took the loss on the mound for IUPUI giving up four runs on four hits.
