NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The IUPUI softball team closed out the Roar City Invitational today against the Miami RedHawks and Tennessee State. The Jags fell to the RedHawks 12-1 and lost to Tennessee State 9-0.
Miami defeated IUPUI in the first game of the day in five innings. The RedHawks jumped on the board in the top of the second inning with one run on two hits, followed by one run in the third. Miami scored one in the top of the fourth then the RedHawks nearly put the game away with a nine-run inning in the top of the fifth on six hits.
Mackenzie Myars launched her first home run of the season over the left field wall to give IUPUI their lone run of the game.
Carly Metcalf took the loss on the mound giving up three runs on four hits in four innings of work.
Kendal Calvert,
Jaida Speth and
Morgan Gilbert each recorded a hit in the loss.
In game two, Tennessee State defeated IUPUI, 9-0. The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after a Jaguar error allowed the runner to score. They added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly and wild pitch. The Tigers scored six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 9-0
Madison Bryant took the loss giving up one run on three hits in two innings.
Kendal Calvert went 2-for-2 while
Rachael Gregory and
Jaylin Calvert each recorded a hit in the loss.
The Jaguars travel to Birmingham, Alabama for a tournament with UAB, Austin Peay and North Alabama. The first game is on Friday (Feb. 25) at 11:00 AM ET.
