MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIM AND DIVE TEAMS EARN THIRD PLACE FINISHES AT #HLSD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Emmaleigh Zietlow earns Freshman of the Year and Damion Dennis was named Coach of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS - Both the IUPUI men's and women's swimming and diving teams brought home third-place finishes at this week's Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the IUPUI Natatorium. The women's team collected 505 points to edge UIC by three points for a third-place finish while the men's team posted 602 points total. 

Head coach Damion Dennis was voted the Men's Coach of the Year by his colleagues while women's freshman Emmaleigh Zietlow was voted the league's Freshman of the Year. The Jags posted multiple school records while Logan Kelly crushed two meet records this week.

IUPUI started the last night of finals off with a gold from Zietlow, her second of the meet, in the 1650 free with a time of 16:55.93. Lauren Thompson kept things moving on the women's side with a second-place finish of 2:00.36 in the 200 back and Caylee Hamilton earned a third-place finish in the 100 free with a 50.83 time. 

The men were up next with three Jaguars earning a spot in the finals for the 100 free. Spencer Jyawook just missed the podium in fourth place with a time of 44.36 while Kevin Burke touched the wall sixth with a time of 44.68 and Wes Wickens in seventh at 45.20. Kelly then broke his second meet record of the week in the 200 breast with a time of 1:55.16 to earn his second gold. With his sixth dive, freshman Alex Scott passed Jared Kleczka of Milwaukee to earn the silver with a total score of 329.45. 

The Jaguars finished the night with a third place in both the men's and women's 400 free relay. The women's team made up of Hamilton, Avery Brooks, Lilly Brandt and Zietlow earned the bronze with a time of 3:25.43. Jyawook, Burke, Wickens and Kelly earned the bronze with a time of 2:59.75. 

IUPUI earned a total of 22 podium placings this week with 12 on the men's side and 10 on the women's side. Six Jags earned individual golds.
