JAGUARS POST FOUR IUPUI RECORDS IN DAY TWO OF HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

IUPUI seals two gold medals, a total of six top-three finishes and four school records

INDIANAPOLIS – With two gold medals, a total of six top-three finishes and four IUPUI records, the Jaguar swimming and diving team recorded their best night at the Horizon League Championships under head coach Damion Dennis.
 
"I am extremely happy with how we swam today," said Dennis. "It was one of the best nights at the Horizon League Championships that we've ever had. We set our goals high at the beginning and we are well on our way to accomplishing them."
 
Freshman Emmaleigh Zietlow started things off strong for the Jaguars with a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.52. Zoe Hendrickx and Jackie Bontrager also earned points for the lady Jags in the 500 free taking 15th and 16th place overall. Nico Gallego and Luke Dibley earned points on the men's side in the 500 free with 12th and 13th finishes.
 
Senior Jason Harary followed Zietlow's gold up with a school record breaking time of 1:47.27 in the men's 200 individual medley to earn silver behind Cleveland State's Timmy Kubacki. Ben Kimmel (9th), Logan Kelly (11th) and Dane Charleston (12th) also earned points on the men's side while Emma Theobald (10th) and Lauren Thompson (12th) earned points for the women in the 200 IM.
 
IUPUI continued the podium streak with a silver from Caylee Hamilton in the 50 free with a time of 23.34 just barely behind UIC's Poleena Kovalaske (23.33). Avery Brooks earned a sixth-place finish while Lilly Brandt earned tenth place. On the men's side, Spencer Jyawook set a new school record of 19.87 to seal a spot on the podium in the bronze position. Kevin Burke just missed the podium in fourth place with a time of 20.00, while Wes Wickens earned points for the Jags in tenth place.
 
Freshman Alex Scott earned a third-place finish and stepped onto the Horizon League podium for the first time in his career in the men's 1 mtr dive with a score of 298.20. The Jags had three divers in the A finals including Scott, Adam Schmehl (6th) and Levi Vorreyer (8th).
 
The night ended in exciting fashion with Hamilton breaking a school record leading off for IUPUI in the women's 200 free relay with a time of 23.17 and the men's 200 free relay taking the gold. The men's 200 free relay team made up of Logan Kelly, Burke, Jyawook and Wickens broke the fourth school record of the day for the Jags and earned the top spot on the podium with a time of 1:19.64.
 
With the stellar day, the men's team moved into second place overall with 228 points behind Oakland with 275, while the women's team sits in third place with 199 points behind Oakland (311) and Milwaukee (216.5). The Jags look to continue their success in the pool tomorrow starting with prelims at 10:00 am.
