INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swim and dive team hosts cross-town foe, UIndy for their home-opener on Friday, October 7 with the first event set to start at 4:00 PM ET.
Head coach
Damion Dennis' team was voted to finish in the top three in the Horizon League preseason poll with the men's team voted second and the women's picked third.
The Jags opened the 2022-23 season at the Butler Double Duals where IUPUI finished 4-1 on both the men's and women's side.
On the women's side, IUPUI recorded 11 top five finishes with four of those taking the top time. Sophomore and reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year
Emmaleigh Zietlow dominated the distance events with first place finishes in the 1000 (10:23.99) and the 500 free (5:02.21). The men defeated four out of the five teams with 18 top-five finishes and three top times.
Kevin Burke took first place in the 50 free (21.29), sophomore
Dane Charleston earned the first-place finish 200 back (1:53.67) and
Logan Kelly came out on top in the 200 breast (2:01.64).
This meet will also mark the first time the Jags will compete on the diving boards for the 2022-23 season. Diving coach
Eric Barnes brought in four talented freshman, three on the men's side and one on the women's team.
Sebastian Otero,
Tomas Salas and
Blake Vanderjeugdt join the men's team while Kayle Gott join the women's team.
Sophomore
Alex Scott, who finished second in the 3 mtr and third in the 1 mtr at the Horizon League Championships, returns for his second season with the Jags while
Levi Vorreyer and
Adam Schmehl also return on the boards for the IUPUI men's team. On the women's side,
Sadie Smith, who finished fourth in both the 3 mtr and 1 mtr, will compete for her third year as a Jag while
Isabella Smith,
Midori Adams,
Gillian Karsten and
Deirdre Leib also look to make an impact on the boards.
The Jags will look to continue their success in the pool on Friday starting at 4:00 PM ET.
