MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The IUPUI volleyball team earned their third consecutive Horizon League win with a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday to improve their record to 3-2 in conference play. Sophomore
Briana Brown led the Jaguar attack hitting .435 with 21 kills.
"The way this team battled this week makes me so proud," said head coach
Lindsey Froehlich. "There was an unwavering belief that we could overcome whatever challenges we faced. Someone was always ready to step up or help out a teammate."
"We talked about being more intentional in our execution and how we need everyone in order to be successful. We served tough, were more disciplined on defense, and took some brave swings. They took ownership and continue to challenge themselves and each other to reach our goals. Looking forward to seeing us continue to grow!"
After a back-and-forth start in the opening set, the Jags went on a 5-1 run to force Robert Morris to call a timeout. The Colonials tied it up at 21 all but the Jags came out on top after kills from
Millai Madison and Brown, 25-22.
The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before Brown knocked down her first kill in set two. Robert Morris led for most of the set and finished it at 25-20, despite a late surge from the Jags led by a service ace from
Darragh Dixon.
IUPUI totaled 12 kills and hit .206 in the third set to regain the lead, 2-1 (25-18). The Jags sealed the win with a fourth set victory, 26-24, outhitting the Colonials again .233 to .073.
Brown led the attack hitting .435 with 21 kills. She also added a season-high 18 digs behind
Addie Evans' team-high 19 digs.
Allie Pogue totaled 14 kills hitting .186.
Darragh Dixon led the team in aces with three while
Sidney Veatch led in assists with 23.
The Jags are now 9-8 overall and 3-2 in conference and will return home to face Northern Kentucky for Professor Appreciation Night on Friday, October 7 with first serve at 6:00 PM.
