1/14/2022 6:24:00 PM

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The IUPUI women's tennis team starts back up this weekend when they travel to Valparaiso on Saturday (Jan. 15) and Purdue on Sunday (Jan. 16).  Head coach Jason Suscha's team started off strong in the fall and look to continue that in the new year.

The Jags opened the fall with a strong showing at Illinois State, keyed by flight wins from Megan Bernard and Samantha Hayward. Marta Krakowski went 2-1 in her flight and Ines Rivera went 2-2 overall. IUPUI also got singles wins from Krystal Grubb, Sarah Lounsbury and Christina Stankovic. In doubles, Grubb and Rivera teamed up for a pair of wins and Gabrielle Ochalik and Stankovic earned a win together at Illinois State. The team's 13 fall wins gave them a strong boost for the spring season.

Suscha's roster is made up of mostly juniors and seniors this season, including two fifth-year seniors in Bernard and Grubb. Bernard led the team with five singles wins last year, mostly from the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Grubb and Ochalik spilt time at the top of the IUPUI lineup while Lounsbury earned four singles wins from the No. 3 spot. Hayward also collected four wins in singles play during the last season.

The Jags are looking to get back out on the tennis court this weekend when they face Valparaiso on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and then take on the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
