ABOUT THE TEAMS:
MEN'S
Head coach
Chuck Koeppen's men's squad was recently picked as the favorite in the Horizon League this season and did nothing to diminish those expectations in the season opener. The Jags placed third at the Butler Twilight, falling to Cincinnati at host Butler in the 6K opener. Junior
Nate Kaiser led the way for the Jags, placing eighth overall in a time of 18:18.1 and was later named Horizon League Runner of the Week. Kaiser's time was the quickest-ever by an IUPUI runner at Northview to open the season, surpassing the prior best of 18:22 by Robert Murphy in 2016.
Behind him, classmate
Brennan Butche was tenth at 18:24.6 and sophomore
Eric Petersen clocked a time of 18:31.3.
Nick Perkins posted a time of 18:34.5 and
Mitchell Rans rounded out the top five in a time of 18:40.7. Senior
Eric Hoffman placed 22nd overall in a time of 18:43.2 and true freshman
Will Clark had a strong debut with a time of 19:28.1.
WOMEN'S
Head coach
Antonio McDaniel's young squad showed some veteran mettle in the season opener, keyed by sophomore
Hannah Sale. Sale was IUPUI's top finisher in the 5K race in a time of 18:34.6 to finish 21st of 70 runners. A tight pack of teammates followed her as senior
Sabrina Elder closed at 18:55.5,
Ellie Cates crossed at 18:57.1 and
Madison Fry was next in line at 19:03.2.
True freshman
Laci Provenzano rounded out the scoring five in her collegiate debut with a time of 19:42.5 and veterans
