YORKTOWN, Ind. - The IUPUI women's golf team registered a final round score of 302 at the Ball State Cardinal Classic on Tuesday (Sept. 21) and ultimately climbed to a fourth-place finish among the 16 teams competing at The Players Club. The Jaguars finished at 917 (310-305-302) and finished five shots behind champion Akron's 912.
"After yesterday, we were all a tad disappointed, but proud of our grit during the rainy weather," sophomore
Madeleine Pape said. "Today, we went out as a team with the goal to play our game as best we could and fell a few shots of getting the job done. We fully gave it our all."
IUPUI got off to a hot start on Tuesday as sophomore
Shelby Busker holed out her 50 degree wedge from 110 yards out for eagle on her first hole of the day. Classmate
Madeleine Pape made birdie on the same hole to send the Jags off and running.
The Jaguars were steady throughout the day, despite their collective putting doing no favors.
Fifth-year senior
Amelie Svejda led the IUPUI lineup at 228 (75-77-76), placing 11th among the 88-player field. Senior
Kara Blair finished her tournament at 230 (78-77-75) after shooting 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Blair and Pape accounted for all four of the team's birdies on Tuesday while Busker had one of the tournament's two eagles for the week.
True freshman
Nerea Lancho closed at 234 (78-77-79) and Pape finished with her best round of the event, ultimately closing at 235 (79-81-75). Busker rebounded from a rough first round to end the event at 236 (86-74-76), giving back-to-back countable scores.
Sophomore

The Jaguars continued to pile up pars, topping the field with 164 over two days, led by Blair's 36 and Svejda's 35. Pape and Fox had a team-high six birdies each and Blair and Svejda made four apiece.
Taylor University's Nicole Jung and Bowling Green's Kayla Davis finished the event tied atop the leaderboard at 4-over 220. Davis made birdie on the first playoff hole to ultimately secure the victory.
IUPUI will return to action on Sept. 26 when the Jaguars compete in the Briar Ridge Invitational, hosted by UIC in Schererville, Ind., on Sept. 26-27.
