Chuks Isitua signs National Letter of Intent to join the program this fall

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department and head basketball coach Matt Crenshaw announced the addition of Texas big man Chuks Isitua to the program, beginning with the 2021-2022 season. Isitua, a 6-foot-11 forward/center, is Crenshaw's fourth signee since taking over the program.

-Considered a 3-star recruit by most major scouting services
-Listed by 247Sports as the No. 18 recruit from the state of Texas and No. 4 center from the state; ranked No. 13 in the state by TexasTop100.com
-Played at Jack Yates (Texas) High School, where they were favorites to win the state title in 2020 before the season was ended due to COVID
-Named to the 2021 All-VYPE Houston Boys Public School Basketball Team
-Two-time All-District honoree
-Helped Yates set a national record with 17 straight games with 100 points or more during his junior campaign
-Played on the Nike EYBL Circuit with the We All Can Go All Stars
-Began playing basketball at age 13 and didn't come to America from Nigeria until age 14
-Will wear No. 23 for the Jaguars

"He's a big, athletic kid who will immediately fill a need for us with his ability to protect the rim and run the floor from the 5-spot. He's a tremendous rebounder and is learning to finish in close with either hand. He's skilled, but he's only going to get better with his work in the weight room and as we work on him in skill development. He's another kid that's going to be a building block for the future of the program."
