BARNES LEADS IUPUI'S OFFENSE IN DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT AT GREEN BAY

The IUPUI catcher drove in three runs for the Jags in the first day of the series against the Phoenix.

GREEN BAY, Wis – Behind a three-RBI outing from Jordan Barnes, IUPUI beat Green Bay 3-2 in the first game of the day before falling 3-0 in the nightcap to split the doubleheader with the Phoenix on Friday (May 7).

IUPUI 3 – Green Bay 2
In the first game of the series, IUPUI got early offense and was able to hang on to a late lead to earn a 3-2 win. Jordan Barnes led the way for IUPUI with a 2-for-2 outing and drove in all three runs for the Jags, including a two-run home run. Jennah Speth also finished with two hits and scored IUPUI's two other runs.

A two-out single by Speth in the top of the first was followed by Barnes' first big hit of the night as the IUPUI catcher doubled to the corner in left to score Speth from first and put the Jags up 1-0.

In the third, the Jags added to the lead with another two-out performance. Another single by Speth kept the inning alive and she move to second on a passed ball. On a 2-0 count, Barnes hit a blast to left for her fourth home run of the season.

For the first four innings, Green Bay only left one runner on base as Lexi Lucas was in control. The Phoenix finally got to Lucas in the fifth with a two-out solo home run to get on the board.

The Jags took a 3-1 lead in to the final inning and Lucas got the first out on a fly out to center. On the first pitch to the next batter, Green Bay inched closer with a solo home run to left by Samantha Saloun.

After a strikeout, Morgan Bihun hit a shot to center field that hit the top of the fence but stayed in the park, putting the go-ahead run at the plate but Lucas got a pop up to Morgan Gilbert at short to end the game.

Lucas picked up her seventh win of the season allowing just the two runs on four hits, striking out four and not walking a batter. In the complete game win, Lucas threw just 54 pitches.

Green Bay 3 – IUPUI 0
The Jag offense was not able to produce in game two as IUPUI was shutout in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

IUPUI finished the second game of the day with just three hits, one each from Gilbert, Barnes and Amber Pagan. The Jags threatened in the third with runners on second and third with two outs but a strikeout ended that threat.

IUPUI also got runners on in the fourth and in the fifth but could not come up with a two-out hit in either inning as the game remained scoreless.

Jennah Speth had dealt with threats by Green Bay early but managed to get out of them each time. With a runner on second with two outs in the first, Speth got a groundout. Speth got another two-out groundout in the second with runners on second and third. Green Bay's biggest chance early was loading the bases with one out in the third but a strikeout and another groundout kept the game scoreless.

Green Bay finally broke through on Speth in the fifth scoring three runs, all with two outs, to get on the scoreboard.

The Jags would get a runner on in the sixth but were not able to advance the runner past first before going down in order in the seventh.

Despite getting the loss, Speth finished the game with nine strikeouts, her second-highest total on the season.
