WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman
Taylor Gardner played his way on to the Horizon League's Golf Championship's All-Tournament Team this week, finishing the 54-hole tournament tied for fifth overall at 4-over 220 (72-71-77). With Gardner leading the way, the Jaguars finished tied for sixth overall at 926 (309-303-314).
Oakland won the team title at 6-over 870 and OU's Thomas Giroux was medalist at 2-under 214 (70-70-74).
Despite the strong winds, IUPUI was equally strong for much of the day and was just 4-over through 11 holes after Gardner made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 10 and 11. However, IUPUI faded late and didn't make another birdie over the day's final seven holes.
"We had some stretches where we played well, but just didn't put a full round together today," assistant coach
Vince Drahman said. "We were pretty solid in the morning and Keegan really had it going, but the back nine was a bit of a different story."
Senior
Keegan McCullough, playing his final round for the Jaguars, made three birdies on the front nine and was 1-under at the turn. He ultimately ended his day at 3-over 75 and his tournament at 10-over 226 (76-75-75). Gardner, who led the Jaguars the first two rounds, closed with a 5-over 77 and his tournament at 220 (72-71-77).
Gardner ended the tournament tied atop the field in par-5 scoring at 5-under for the week. He had a team-high 10 birdies over three rounds and tied for the team-high with 32 pars. McCullough also had 32 pars and
Josh Yoder had 31 for the week.
On Tuesday, Yoder provided a round of 79 and
Brock Aten posted a countable round of 83.
Matthew Baxter never found a rhythm and finished with a final round 85.
Yoder ended the tournament tied for 36th overall at 238 (79-80-79).
