"It was a tough test of golf this week. This was a good measuring stick for our guys," assistant coach
Vince Drahman said. "We played some good stretches but still haven't pulled it together for a full 18 holes this spring. We will work hard the next few days on tee shots, short game and par-3's. Those are the important areas if we want to play Kampen well."
Host Wright State coasted to the team title with a score of 873 as Valparaiso and Ohio finished tied for second at 886. Valpo's Caleb VanArragon and WSU's Austin Schoonmaker tied atop the leaderboard at 3-under 210.
Gardner finished well, playing his final nine holes to 1-over, including making three birdies in a six-hole span late in the round. Aten had back-to-back birdies early in his round as part of his three birdies on Monday and McCullough made a pair of birdies.
Baxter also made two birdies on Monday. Ohio-native
Preston Nanthavong rounded out the group with an 82. Baxter was third on the team with a 54-hole 230 (75-78-77) and Aten tied for 50th overall at 231 (76-78-77).
"It was a tough week of golf - a punishing course with some challenging winds," Baxter said. "We have a lot of positives to take into conference despite the scores not being our best. This week we'll get some great work done to sharpen up our short games and work on the tee shots needed for Kampen."
Aten had a team-high eight birdies for the week and Gardner and McCullough had a team-high 30 pars each.
IUPUI will be back in action next week when the Jaguars compete in the Horizon League Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.
