INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI's offense was clicking but the Jags could not slow down Purdue Fort Wayne as the Jags lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14) on Tuesday (Feb. 9).
IUPUI (0-6) hit a season-best .284 for the match and committed only 12 errors.
Allie Pogue finished the match with 11 kills and
Millai Madison was second on the team with seven.
Darragh Dixon hit .750 with six kills and dished out 31 assists.
Maddie Haines finished the match with six kills and Emily Alad had five kills, hitting .308.
Defensively, IUPUI had a hard time stopping Purdue Fort Wayne (4-2). The Mastodons finished the match hitting .384, including two sets of hitting over .400. Katie Crowe led all hitters with 22 kills on a .541 clip.
Rhiannon Schuenemann finished the match with a team-high 11 digs but the Jags finished with a season-low two blocks.
Early in the first set IUPUI took a 6-3 lead after kills from Madison and Alan but the Mastodons rallied off six-straight before Pogue stopped the run with a kill. Later in the set the Jags were down four before two kills by Haines and one each from Madison and Dixon tied the score at 20. From there, Purdue Fort Wayne closed out the set on a 5-1 run.
The teams traded points through most of the early part of set two with a kill by Dixon tying the score at 16. After an error by Purdue Fort Wayne, Pogue served an ace and followed that up with a kill on the next point to give IUPUI a 19-17 lead. The Jags took advantage of three errors by Purdue Fort Wayne to earn a 23-19 lead but a block by the Mastodons on Madison's next attempt started a 7-0 run that would end the set in Purdue Fort Wayne's favor at 25-23.
Needing a win in set three to keep the match going, IUPUI took a 7-5 lead after kills by Pogue and Dixon. With the scored tied at nine, Purdue Fort Wayne opened up a lead with a 4-0 run and put the set out of reach with a 6-0 run to take a 22-12 lead.
IUPUI will remain at home for its next two matches as the Jaguars host Milwaukee on Monday (Feb. 15) and Tuesday (Feb. 16).
