HOT SHOOTING JAGS BLOW PAST FLAMES

IUPUI had three quarters shooting over 50 percent in the win.

CHICAGO – Hot shooting led IUPUI to a 71-52 win over UIC on Friday (Feb. 5). The Jags shot almost 50 percent from the field in the win.

Macee Williams led IUPUI (10-4, 8-3 Horizon) with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting and Rachel McLimore went 6-for-8 from the floor to finish with 14 points. In total, IUPUI shot 49.1 percent (27-for-55) from the field, including over 53 percent in each of the first three quarters.

The Jags were also on fire from deep, going 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) from three and hitting 67 percent from three in the first three quarters.

IUPUI took advantage of great ball movement, finishing the game with 21 assists on its 27 made shots. Agatha Beier led all players with seven assists and McLimore finished with five. Both Macee Williams and Katelyn O'Reilly each had three dimes.

"Agatha having seven assists and taking a charge was important," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "Our team did a nice job of sharing the ball throughout the game."

Five different Jaguars scored in the first four minutes of the game with Anna Mortag hitting a three to put the Jags up 12-4 early as IUPUI hit its first five shots from the floor. After another bucket from Mortag and a jumper from Allen, IUPUI saw its lead increase to 16-4 and the Jags took an 18-8 lead in to the second quarter. For the quarter, IUPUI shot a game best 8-for-12 and held UIC (3-10, 1-8 Horizon) to just 23 percent shooting.

Up 36-22 at the half, IUPUI came out in the third quarter and put the game away with great play on both sides of the court. The Jags outscored UIC 25-7 in the third, shot 53 percent from the floor and held the Flames to 20 percent shooting. IUPUI also went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in quarter as IUPUI put the game away.

"Really pleased with our defense for three quarters," said Parkinson. "I thought Katelyn set the tone for our team with her hustle plays."

Williams started the quarter with a three point play and Roule added a three before another three point play from Williams made the score 45-22. The Jags continued the run with jumpers from McLimore and Roule and finished off an 18-2 run with a three from McLimore and another Williams bucket.

Williams scored her 10th point of the quarter on the next possession before IUPUI closed out the quarter with two free throws from Mortag and three from Jaci Jones.

The Jags held a slight rebounding edge (34-29) with O'Reilly and Roule each grabbing six to lead IUPUI. Mortag and Natalie Andersen each had four.

IUPUI and UIC will meet again on Saturday, Feb. 6 to finish up the two-game set with tip off set for 3 p.m. ET.
