JAGS HOLD OFF UIC FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT WIN

IUPUI had three players finish in double figures in the win over the Flames.

CHICAGO – IUPUI held off a late rally to beat UIC 74-64 on Saturday (Feb. 6). The win was IUPUI'S third-straight on the road.

Macee Williams led the Jags with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting, pulled down four rebounds and dished out five assists. Rachel McLimore tallied 14 points and Katelyn O'Reilly also finished in double-figures, with 10 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

Agatha Beier again stuffed the stat sheet, making her third-straight start. The senior scored eight points, led the Jags with seven assists, grabbed four rebounds, a steal and a block. Natalie Andersen also contributed on both ends, with eight points, six rebounds and a team-high four steals.

IUPUI () entered the fourth quarter up by eight but a quick 5-0 run by UIC cut the Jaguar lead to 55-52. O'Reilly ended the run with a jumper but the teams traded baskets until a 6-0 run that featured a bucket from McLimore and two from Williams to push the lead to 65-56.

With the Jags up seven and four minutes to play, McLimore hit a three to make it a double-digit lead. Beier followed, splitting a pair of free throws and Sydney Roule hit a three with 1:27 left to play to put the Jags up 12 and seal the win.

"I was really encouraged all weekend by the play of Agatha," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "She drove the ball well and handled their pressure nicely, and the seven assists were really important. UIC played with good energy and I'm proud of our ladies for finding a way to win in a close game."

The game started out slow, with the Jags up 13-9 after the first quarter and both offenses struggling. IUPUI hit just 31 percent from the field in the first and UIC hit 38 percent. From there, both offenses woke up with the Jags shooting over 61 percent for the rest of the game and UIC hitting 61 percent in the second half.

For the game, both teams finished 53 percent from the floor but the big difference came at the free throw line with the Jags going 18-for-24 from the stripe while the Flames went just 7-for-13. IUPUI's big advantage at the stripe came in the second quarter (7-for-9) and third quarter (8-for-10) while UIC went just 4-for-9 during those 20 minutes. Morgan Allen led all Jags at the line, going 5-for-6.

Early in the second quarter, IUPUI pushed the lead to ten with a three by Andersen and a three-point play from O'Reilly. After the Flames cut the lead to five, IUPUI responded with a bucket from Williams and a three-pointer from O'Reilly. Two free throws from Beier pushed the lead to 28-16 and it looked like IUPUI might begin to open up the lead but UIC continued to battle and stay within striking distance.

The second half began with IUPUI pushing the lead to 15 after baskets by Williams and layup from McLimore but a 9-0 run by UIC brought the game back to a six-point affair. IUPUI took to the free throw line late in the quarter, going 7-for-8 from the line over the last four minutes, including six points from Anna Mortag, but a buzzer beating three by UIC dropped the lead back to eight heading in to the final frame.

IUPUI returns home for its final scheduled home weekend of the regular season, taking on Youngstown State on Friday (Feb. 12) and Saturday (Feb. 13).
