MCLIMORE, WILLIAMS LEAD IUPUI PAST GREEN BAY, 68-61

The duo helped IUPUI end a three-game losing streak with the win at Green Bay.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Behind big games from both Rachel McLimore and Macee Williams, IUPUI snapped a three-game skid with a 68-61 win over Green Bay on Saturday (Jan. 30). The duo combined for 39 of IUPUI's 68 points and went a combined 16-for-20 from the free throw line.

McLimore, who has been on an offensive tear in her last four games, led IUPUI (9-4, 7-3 Horizon) with 23 points. The redshirt junior has now scored at least 20 points in three of her last four games after hitting the 20-point mark in just two games last season. McLimore has also scored at least 17 points in four-straight games for the first time in her career.

Williams joined McLimore in double figures, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. The senior led the team with five rebounds and Agatha Beier, making her first start of the season, was second on the team with three. Katelyn O'Reilly was third on the team with eight points and Natalie Andersen added seven.

The Jags opened the game from three-point range, going 3-for-11 from deep in the first quarter and not shooting a free throw, but took a 13-9 lead in to the second. A Williams' three-point play put IUPUI up by five early in the second quarter and McLimore hit two more free throws, giving IUPUI more made free throws, three, than in all of the first game against Green Bay when IUPUI went 2-for-4 from the stripe.

Green Bay (9-6, 8-4 Horizon) matched IUPUI the rest of the way in the second quarter until McLimore hit a three at the buzzer to put IUPUI up 31-25 at the break.

After McLimore scored nine points in the first half and Williams had just three, the duo took over in the second half. IUPUI took its first double-digit lead of the game on a three by McLimore with 6:30 left in the third and a Williams' three-point play with just under five minutes kept the lead at 11.

Needing to hold a lead, the Jags did their damage at the free throw line in the final quarter to seal the win. IUPUI went 11-for-14 from the free throw line over the last ten minutes. Both McLimore and Williams went 5-for-6 from the line in the final stanza.

Green Bay cut the lead to three twice but the first time IUPUI got a bucket from McLimore before Williams answered on the next possession with a free throw. After a Phoenix turnover, two offensive rebounds by McLimore led to a three by Sydney Roule to put the Jags up 59-52. Green Bay would get no closer than five the rest of the way as McLimore would ice the game with five free throws in the final minute.

The Jags held the lead for 38:17 after falling behind 0-2, again leading for most of the game as has been a common theme this year.

IUPIU finished with a large 21-8 advantage in second-chance points despite having only an 11-10 advantage on the offensive glass. Overall, IUPUI was outrebounded 34-27 for only the second time this year.

IUPUI did a much better job taking care of the ball, finishing with only 11 turnovers, winning the battle 18-11. In the first game against Green Bay, the Phoenix forced 21 turnovers from IUPUI.

The Jags will stay on the road next weekend with games scheduled at UIC on Friday (Feb. 5) and Saturday (Feb. 6).
