CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Freshman
Makayla Clampitt was the IUPUI women's track and field team's star of stars on Friday night (Feb. 7) as three Jaguars competed, split between the Cedarville Collegiate Invitational and Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.
At Cedarville, Clampitt participated in the 60m dash and sophomore
Kelly Zehnder competed in the pole vault while at Notre Dame, junior
Janine Orvis ran the 5,000m event.
Clampitt easily won her preliminary heat of the 60m dash in a time of 8.07 seconds to punch an automatic ticket to the finals. In the finals, she clocked a personal best time of 8.02 seconds to place seventh overall.
"I'm really happy with how my race went in the 60. It's been a goal of mine to make it to the finals and today it finally happened while also cutting some time off," Clampitt said. "I'm excited to work more and get more time off my races."
Clampitt also won her heat of the 200m dash in a time of 27.21, shedding nearly half a second off her prior best.
Meanwhile, Zehnder vaulted her way to a sixth-place finish with a best jump of 3.29m (10' 9.5'').
At the Meyo Invite, Orvis spun a time of 18:11.09, placing eighth in her heat and 25th overall.
Katelyn Murphy will cap the Jaguars' weekend on Saturday (Feb. 8) when she competes in the 3,000m event at the Meyo Invitational. A full recap and results will be posted to IUPUIJags.com immediately afterwards.
