EL PASO, Texas – IUPUI finished their trip to UTEP with a 16-5 loss in five innings against New Mexico State. Sabrina Trevino hit her first home run of the season for IUPUI but the Jags were hurt by four home runs hit by New Mexico State.
Six Jaguars finished with hits in the loss and Amber Pagan joined Trevino with two RBI. McKenzie Loge also tallied an extra base hit with a double.
New Mexico State jumped out to a quick lead over starter Kayana Diederich (2-1), with a two run home run in the third at bat of the game. The Aggies added another run on an error before the first inning ended.
A grand slam in the top of the third put New Mexico State up 7-0 and chased Diederich from the game.
IUPUI got on the board in the bottom of the third with all five runs in the inning coming with two outs. Loge led off the inning with a walk and with two outs, Rachael Gregory kept the inning alive with a single. Mandy Dallas delivered the first run for the Jags with a single down the left field line to bring home Loge.
Pagan delivered in the next at bat with a single to center that scored both Gregory and Dallas. Trevino then stepped to the plate and delivered a big blast to left center to make the score 7-5.
New Mexico State added two runs in the top of the fourth on an error by IUPUI, one of four errors the Jags committed in the game. The Aggies scored seven more runs in the fifth inning, using a three-run and solo home run in the process to put the game out of reach.

IUPUI will be back in action next weekend playing five games at Western Kentucky beginning on Friday (Feb. 28).
