IUPUI senior guard
Marcus Burk has been voted to the Horizon League's Preseason First Team by the league's coaches, media and sports information personnel, as announced on Thursday (Nov. 5). IUPUI was picked to finish 12th according to the preseason polls while Wright State collected 37 of 44 first-place votes to capture the top spot. Youngstown State and Northern Kentucky also collected first-place votes and were picked second and third, respectively.
WSU center Loudon Love was voted the league's Preseason Player of the Year and was joined on the first team by Burk, Antoine Davis (Detroit Mercy), Amari Davis (Green Bay) and Darius Quisenberry (Youngstown State). The second team consisted of Algevon Eichelberger (Cleveland State), Te'Jon Lucas (Milwaukee), Rashad Williams (Oakland), AJ Bramah (Robert Morris) and Naz Bohannon (Youngstown State).
Burk was a second team all-league performer last season after averaging 21.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game shooting a league-best 38.6 percent from three-point range. The 6-foot-3 sniper connected on 93 treys and scored in double-digits in 29 of the Jaguars' 32 contests. He topped 20 points or better 19 times which included four games of 30-or-better. He was named the CollegeInsider.com Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week on Nov. 18 after leading the Jags to wins over Anderson and South Florida and averaging 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in those two contests. He was a two-time Horizon League Player of the Week, also earning the award after a 39-point outburst in a Jan. 25 overtime win at Oakland.
He upped his scoring output to 23.3 points per game in league play last season. Burk tested the NBA waters following the 2019-2020 campaign, but ultimately opted to return to school for the 2020-2021 season.
