MCLIMORE LEADS JAGS TO SIXTH-STRAIGHT WIN IN VICTORY OVER GREEN BAY

The Jaguar defense shut down Green Bay as IUPUI held the Phoenix to just 42 points in the win.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – IUPUI women's basketball won its sixth-straight game, taking down Green Bay 54-42 on Friday (Jan. 17). The win keeps IUPUI sitting on top of the Horizon League standings with the Jags now sitting at 6-1 in conference play.

IUPUI (12-6, 6-1 Horizon) was led by Rachel McLimore who poured in a game-high 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, hitting all three of her threes. Holly Hoopingarner scored 11 and dished out a team-high six assists. Macee Williams, who faced double- and triple-teams for the majority of the game, still collected a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

"I though Rachel was terrific tonight on both ends of the floor and Holly ran the show with poise," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "I was really happy with our defense tonight throughout the game and liked how we started the second half."

The Jags took a 13-point lead in to the half after holding Green Bay (8-10, 3-3 Horizon) to just two points in the second quarter. To start the second half, the Phoenix hit a bucket but the Jags then took over. Williams hit a layup and that was followed by a three and a jumper by McLimore to stretch the lead to 18. After a steal by Williams, Katelyn O'Reilly hit an open three to put the Jags up 21 as IUPUI held Green Bay scoreless for over four minutes.

IUPUI finished the game shooting 43% from the field and held Green Bay to just 30% from the floor. The disparity was even bigger from behind the arc as IUPUI was 9-for-21 from deep (43%) and the Phoenix went just 3-for-15 (20%) from downtown. Neither team spent a lot of time at the free throw line as IUPUI was 5-for-8 and Green Bay went 5-for-5.

The Jags held a 13-8 advantage over Green Bay in bench points with Natalie Andersen leading the Jags with nine points, scoring all nine points during the second quarter. Destiny Perkins scored IUPUI's other four points off the bench.

"Both Destiny and Natalie came in tonight off the bench and made some key plays," said Parkinson.

Perkins layup to start the fourth quarter put IUPUI up 17 but Green Bay started to whittle away at the IUPUI lead. Green Bay's Frankie Wurtz, who led the team with 14 points, hit two threes to cut the lead to 11 with two minutes left but that was the last point Green Bay would score as Hoopingarner hit a free throw to increase IUPUI to its final margin.

The game started with the Jags taking advantage of wide open threes as Green Bay was not going to make things easy on Williams in the post. After Williams hit a jumper, IUPUI got two threes from Hoopingarner and a three from McLimore to take a 13-6 lead. Green Bay fought back to tie the game with a minute left in the quarter but Williams hit two free throws to give IUPUI a 19-17 lead after the first ten minutes.

The Jags started the second quarter with an 8-0 run over the first four minutes that featured two threes from Andersen and a jumper by Williams. Green Bay's only basket of the quarter came from Madison Wolf with 6:21 left on the clock but IUPUI's defense shut down the Phoenix, not allowing Green Bay to score for the rest of the quarter.

IUPUI took advantage as Andersen hit another three and Perkins hit a layup but the Jaguar offense also went as cold as the Green Bay winter as no team scored for the last 5:42 of the first half.
