INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men's tennis team was picked to finish fourth in the 2020 Horizon League Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches, the league announced on Friday (Jan. 10). The Jaguars secured one first place vote on the ballot.
IUPUI is coming off an impressive season where the Jaguars finished 14-11 and won a first round matchup against Green Bay in the Horizon League Tournament.
First year head coach
Bren Vasalakis has most of the roster from a season ago returning, including reigning Freshman of the Year
Alex Jochim. The Jags boast a strong junior class, led by
Ethan Mardanus-Budiono and
Sean Bailey.
Eric Hollingsworth and
Michael Koch round out the juniors for a roster that does not feature a senior.
"2020 will be a competitive year in the Horizon League and I think this team will step up in a big way," said Vasalakis.
Colton Morehart, who played in the No. 2 spot for the Jags is joined by fellow sophomores,
Reed Plunkett and
Rodney Steven.
Colton Morehart is the lone freshman of the roster for the Jags.
IUPUI begins play in the 2020 season on the road for its first five matches, beginning with a contest at Northwestern on Sunday, Jan. 19.
