MEN'S SOCCER TO PLAY BRADLEY, PURDUE FORT WAYNE THIS WEEK

IUPUI (0-0-1) to trek to Bradley on Friday (Sept. 6) before hosting PFW on Sunday (Sept. 8)

PEORIA, Ill. - The IUPUI men's soccer team will face a pair of stiff tests this week as the Jaguars travel to Bradley on Friday (Sept. 6) before returning home to host Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday (Sept. 8) at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars opened the 2019 campaign with a 1-1 double overtime draw with California Baptist last Friday evening at Carroll Stadium. The Jaguars are riding a four-match unbeaten streak dating back to last season, while also seeking a first-ever win over Bradley. 

MATCH INFO 
  • Friday's match at Bradley will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. Central (8 Eastern) at Bradley's Shea Stadium in Peoria, Ill. There will be no video stream of Friday's match, but live stats will be available at kickoff. The match is a homecoming for the Jaguars' coaching staff as Brian Barnett was a longtime assistant under BU head coach Jim DeRose and assistant Ronnie Bouemboue also served on the Braves' staff. 
  • Friday's game will be Bradley's Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game, honoring the Peoria Notre Dame grad who died just before the start of his freshman season in 2007. Barnett is also a PND graduate and friend of the Dahlquist family. 
  • Sunday's match with Purdue Fort Wayne will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPN+ as Scott Beringer is on the call. Live Stats will be available on IUPUIJags.com, beginning at kickoff. 
  • Admission is just $5 for ages 13-and-up and just $2 for youth, ages 3-12. IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card and parking is FREE during home events in lots 59, 63, 80 and 86. 
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 0-4 all-time against Bradley following last year's 1-0 home loss on Aug. 31 at Carroll Stadium.
  • IUPUI is 9-9 on the field against Purdue Fort Wayne, but has dropped the last three to the Mastodons, dating back to the 2016 season. Last year IUPUI fell 2-1 in Fort Wayne. 
JAG SCRATCHES
  • IUPUI opened the season with a 1-1 draw with Cal Baptist, yielding the game-tying goal off a corner kick with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation. Senior Yan Souza tallied the Jaguars' goal early in the second half off assists from Kirezi Freddy and Gianni Catenacci. The goal was Souza's third of his career while Catenacci provided his second career assist. Freddy was also credited with an assist in his collegiate debut. 
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Quinn McCallion recorded five saves in the draw, facing an onslaught of 19 shots, 13 of which came after halftime. 
  • Junior back Tommy Patacca and freshman Caleb Hussain played all 110 minutes in the defensive third while Catenacci and Ethan Diedel both logged more than 90 minutes on the back line as well. 
  • IUPUI went 5-10-4 last season and 4-3-1 in Horizon League play, earning a spot in the league's postseason tournament. The Jags then won the program's first postseason match since 2007 by upsetting Green Bay in the opening round. IUPUI later took eventual league champion UIC to penalty kicks in the semifinals round. 
  • IUPUI closed the preseason slate with a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois as sophomore Riley Shives tallied the game-winner in the 69th minute and McCallion recorded a clean sheet in goal. 
  • Dating back to last season, IUPUI is riding a four-game unbeaten streak, having closed last season with back-to-back wins over Northern Kentucky and Green Bay, followed by a draw with eventual league champion UIC and opening this season with a draw with Cal Baptist. 
  • The Jaguars were picked to finish seventh in the Horizon League, according to the league's preseason polls.  
  • IUPUI returns its top two scorers from a season ago in senior midfielder Alan Aguilar (11 points) and sophomore back Corey Goede (eight points). In addition, McCallion (1.22 GAA) returns in net and five other starters - Tommy Patacca, Cameron Petersen, Anthony Saporito, Shives and Pedro Valladao - all return. 
  • All total, IUPUI returns 14 of the team's 17 goals from a season ago. 
  • Head coach Brian Barnett is in his fourth season on the Jaguars' sidelines. 
SCOUTING BRADLEY
  • Like IUPUI, Bradley is also 0-0-1 to start the season after opening the year with a scoreless draw with Belmont.
  • Nathan Wisbey registered the shutout in goal, facing just eight total shots and not needing a save in the clean sheet. 
  • Gerit Wintermeyer led Bradley with five shot attempts, putting two on target. David Kovacevic had two shot attempts. 
  • Seven different Bradley players played all 110 minutes against Belmont. 
SCOUTING PURDUE FORT WAYNE
  • The Mastodons are 1-2 to start the season with home losses to Marshall (0-3) and Cal Baptist (0-4) coming ahead of a midweek 3-1 win over Marian University. 
  • Ryan Bernt tallied the game-winner against Marian while Alex Frank also found the back of the net. James Lamb and Chris Baranowski both earned assists against Marian. 
  • In goal, Tor Erik Larsen has played all 270 minutes this season, logging a 2.67 goals against average and 15 saves with a .652 save percentage. 
UP NEXT
  • IUPUI will open Horizon League play at Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. in a match that will be aired on ESPN+.
