JAGS TO RESUME #HLMSOC PLAY AGAINST GREEN BAY ON SATURDAY

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will resume #HLMSOC play on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28) when the Jaguars host Green Bay (1-4-2, 0-2 HL) at the Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium at 1:00 p.m.. The Jags enter play looking to stop a modest two-game skid after losses to Houston Baptist and Xavier, both by a one-goal margin. 

MATCH INFO 
  • Saturday's match will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium.
  • Admission is just $5 for ages 13-and-up and just $2 for youth, ages 3-12. IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card and parking is FREE during home events in lots 59, 63, 80 and 86. 
  • There will be no broadcast of Saturday's contest, but live stats will be available at kickoff. 
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 3-3-2 all-time against Green Bay in a series that dates back to 2001.
  • The Jags dropped a regular season decision to the Phoenix by a 1-0 score in double overtime last season, but retaliated with a 3-2 overtime win in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament to advance to the semifinals round. IUPUI built an early 2-0 lead in that contest before conceding goals in the 38th and 81st minutes to force overtime. Yan Souza tallied the winner on a header in the game's 97th minute, setup by Gianni Catenacci. Quinn McCallion registered nine saves in that victory. 
  • The last meeting in Indianapolis came on Oct. 22, 2017 - a 2-0 Green Bay win. 
  • IUPUI is 1-1-1 all-time against Green Bay in Indy. 
JAG SCRATCHES
  • Senior midfielder Pedro Valladao was named one of 30 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award on Monday (Sept. 23). He was one of just two selections from the Horizon League and was the lone selection from the Division I schools in the state of Indiana.  
  • Souza was named the Horizon League's Offensive Player of the Week last week after tallying the game-winner in the Jags' 2-1 win at Northern Kentucky in the game's 89th minute. Souza took a feed from Alan Aguilar and drove a shot off an NKU defender and into the open net. Cincinnati-native Chris Workman also scored his first career goal in that game as he was playing just minutes from his hometown.
  • The Jaguars win at NKU was IUPUI's first regular season road win since September 2014 and first regular season league road win since October 2012. 
  • IUPUI recently launched year three of the Jaguars' 'Real Men Read' program, having worked with seven IPS Schools, spanning 16 fourth grade classrooms. 
  • Aguilar fueled the Jaguars' 2-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne, tallying goals in the 61st and 64th minutes. The winner came off assists from Catenacci and Fernando Borges and he added insurance just more than three minutes later by converting the fourth penalty kick of his career. 
  • Souza has a team-high three goals while Catenacci has a team-high three assists in five games. 
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Quinn McCallion has been brilliant this season, registering a 0.96 goals against average and 20 saves in 563 minutes of action. He registered his lone shutout of the season against Purdue Fort Wayne. 
  • Junior back Tommy Patacca has yet to come off the field so far this season while Catenacci is second on the team with 536 minutes of action. 
  • IUPUI went 5-10-4 last season and 4-3-1 in Horizon League play, earning a spot in the league's postseason tournament. The Jags then won the program's first postseason match since 2007 by upsetting Green Bay in the opening round. IUPUI later took eventual league champion UIC to penalty kicks in the semifinals round. 
  • The Jaguars were picked to finish seventh in the Horizon League, according to the league's preseason polls.  
  • IUPUI returns its top two scorers from a season ago in senior midfielder Alan Aguilar (11 points) and sophomore back Corey Goede (eight points). In addition, McCallion (1.22 GAA) returns in net and five other starters - Tommy PataccaCameron PetersenAnthony Saporito, Shives and Pedro Valladao - all return. 
  • All total, IUPUI returns 14 of the team's 17 goals from a season ago. 
  • Head coach Brian Barnett is in his fourth season on the Jaguars' sidelines. 
SCOUTING GREEN BAY
  • Green Bay's (1-4-2, 0-2 HL) lone victory of the season is a 3-1 home defeat of Western Illinois back on Sept. 1. The Phoenix are currently amidst a four-game slide will losses coming to Western Michigan (0-4), at UIC (0-2), at Purdue Fort Wayne (0-1) and to Oakland (0-3). 
  • Green Bay has been blanked in the past four matches and hasn't tallied since a 1-1 double overtime draw with Northern Illinois back on Sept. 6.
  • Five different Green Bay players have scored a goal this season while Fredi Ortega has a team-high three points (1 goal, 1 assist). Aidan Bates has the team's lone game-winner and Lucian Lang has a team-high two assists. 
  • Jamison Yoder has played the bulk of the team's minutes in net and has a 1.86 goals against average and 20 saves in his six appearances.  
  • Jeremy Bonomo was named Green Bay's head coach prior to the 2015 season and is in his fifth season on the Phoenix sidelines, having amassed a 28-35-11 mark.
