WOMEN'S SOCCER TO HOST BELMONT ON FRIDAY

IUPUI (3-2-1) will host Belmont on Friday (Sept. 13); trek to Valpo on Sunday (Sept. 15)

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will enter the fourth week of the season this week, beginning with hosting Belmont on Friday (Sept. 13) at 7:00 p.m. at Carroll Stadium. The Jags will then trek up I-65 on Sunday (Sept. 15) to face former league foe Valparaiso on Sunday. Sunday's match will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. Central (2 Eastern) at Valpo's Brown Field.

MATCH INFO 
  • Friday's match will be broadcast on ESPN+ as Scott Agness will be on the call. In addition, live stats will be available at kickoff. 
  • Admission is just $5 for ages 13-and-up and just $2 for youth, ages 3-12. IUPUI students are admitted for FREE with a valid Crimson Card and parking is FREE during home events in lots 59, 63, 80 and 86.  
  • Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and live stats will begin at kickoff.   
THE SERIES
  • Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between IUPUI and Belmont in women's soccer. 
  • IUPUI 4-12-4 against Valparaiso as the two teams were formerly conference opponents in the Summit League. Valpo has won the past two meetings since the Jaguars won the 2016 meeting in Indianapolis.  
JAG SCRATCHES
  • Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career. 
  • IUPUI is 3-2-1 on the season, having blanked four of its first six opponents to start the year. The Jags have blanked Toledo, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky this year and yielded just six goals in six games. 
  • Offensively, junior Valentine Pursey and freshman Maya Lacognato both have a team-high two goals, with each having netted a game-winner as well. Sophomore Renae Blevins has also scored a game-winner as well, tallying the lone score in the win over EKU. Junior Miranda Ricks is third on the team with three points (1 goal, 1 assist). 
  • Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 19 career goals, 10 of which have been game-winners. 
  • The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
  • Senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka registered her 18th career shutout in the season opening win over Toledo, putting her three shy of tying IUPUI Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's all-time record of 21. 
  • Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 547 minutes in the defensive third this season while junior Morgan Rymer is second on the team with 395 minutes.
  • The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
  • Lipka was the 2017 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and is on pace to break the program's all-time record in shutouts. 
  • IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago. 
  • Head coach Chris Johnson, the program's all-time leader in wins (116), enters his 17th season on the Jaguars' sidelines and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017)
  • Johnson enters this weekend with 198 career wins, having won 117 at IUPUI and 81 from his nine seasons at UIndy from 1994-2002.  
SCOUTING BELMONT
  • Belmont is 1-3-1 on the season, coming off a 4-2 win over Evansville last weekend. The Bruins began the season 0-3, but played Georgia to a scoreless draw on Sept. 5 before defeating the Aces.  
  • Five different Belmont players had a goal this season and Paige Hewitt leads the team with three points (1 goal, 1 assist) and AB Hawkins has two assists. Julie Garst, Belmont's top scorer a season ago, has the Bruins' lone game-winning goal and a team-high 17 shots this season. 
  • Lily Herman has played the bulk of the team's minutes in goal, logging 457 of the team's 470 minutes with a 1.97 goals against average and .667 save percentage. She's registered 20 saves in her five starts in net. 
  • Heather Henson is in her ninth season at the helm of the Belmont program.  
SCOUTING VALPO
  • Valpo is 0-5-1 to start the season with the draw coming at home against Wright State on Sept. 1 by a 2-2 score. The Crusaders will open the weekend with road trip at Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday, Sept. 13. 
  • Valpo has been outscored by an 8-2 margin this season with Kiley Dugan and Nicole Norfolk accounting for the team's goals. Natalie Graf has Valpo's lone assist of the season and Maria Broecker has a team-high eight shot attempts. 
  • In goal, Georgia Henkel has played the majority of Valpo's minutes, registering a 1.15 goals against average and 20 saves in 469 minutes.
  • John Marovich has been Valpo's head coach since 2008 and was the 2014 Horizon League Coach of the Year. 
UP NEXT
  • IUPUI will open Horizon League play next Friday (Sept. 20) when the Jaguars host Northern Kentucky at 11:00 a.m. at Carroll Stadium and will host hundreds of elementary school students at that contest. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. The Jags will cap the two-game weekend at Evansville on Sunday at 2:00 p.m..
