INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI ended a three-game losing streak in a big way with an 11-3 win in five innings over Oakland to begin a three-game set with the Golden Grizzlies. The Jaguars (13-28, 7-4 HL) got a home run from
Mandy Dallas and took advantage of four Oakland errors on route to the win.
Delainey Turner led the Jags, going 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a career-high four runs.
Delaney Thompson finished with two hits and both Thompson and
McKenzie Loge drove in two runs.
Sabrina Trevino showed great patience at the plate drawing three of IUPUI's seven walks.
The Jags got things started in the bottom of the second with four runs, all coming with two outs. After a walk and a single, a strikeout and infield fly put two outs on the board. Turner came up with the first big hit of the night, singling down the right field line to bring home
Maddie Keeley. After Loge was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Haley Ginger drew a walk to bring home the second run. After a pitching change for Oakland, Thompson doubled over the head of the right fielder to score both Turner and Loge.
IUPUI starter
Lexi Lucas (9-9) allowed a runner in each of the first three innings but did not allow a run and the Jags jumped on the Golden Grizzlies in the bottom of the third.
Two walks and a fielding error loaded the bases for IUPUI with only one out. Turner came up to the plate and delivered with a single to right center field that brought home Trevino and
Morgan Schuetter to put the Jags up 6-0. In the next at bat, Loge hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Berrisford and IUPUI was up 7-0 after three.
Oakland finally got to Lucas in the top of the fourth as the leadoff hitter for the Golden Grizzlies hit a solo home run to left field. After a ground out, the long ball bit Lucas again as Oakland hit back-to-back solo shots to cut the lead to 7-3.
Dezirae Leonard replaced Lucas and after an error by
Taytum Schaney in right put runner on second, Leonard was able to get out of the inning with no more runs crossing the plate.
Mandy Dallas answered Oakland's inning with a solo home run of her own to lead off the bottom of the fourth. It was Dallas' team-leading sixth home run of the year. The Jags then took advantage of mistakes by Oakland as two errors sandwiched a walk to again load the bases. Turner found herself in another run producing situation and delivered with another single to score
Jaida Speth. Loge again hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Schaney and put the Jags up 10-3 after four.
After Leonard stranded a runner in the top half of the fifth for Oakland, IUPUI looked to end the game in the bottom of the inning. Thompson led off the inning with a single and after a strike out, a walk by Trevino put the winning run at second. The runners moved up on a wild pitch and Speth reached as Oakland's first baseman fielded a grounder but tried to catch a breaking Thompson. Thompson retreated to third and beat the throw to load the bases. After getting up 3-0 in the count, Schaney watched two strikes but the full-count pitch was high and the Jags took the game on the walk-off walk.
