FIVE IUPUI SWIMMING AND DIVING ATHLETES NAMED ALL-ACADEMIC

The Jags had five athletes voted to the Horizon's All-Academic team for their strong work in both the classroom and the pool

INDIANAPOLIS – Five members of the IUPUI Jaguars swimming and diving program were named to the Horizon League Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team, the league announced on Friday (March 8).

Four members of the women's program and one member from the men's program were voted to the team by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
On the women's side, seniors Mallory Buha, Olivia Treski, are joined on the team by junior Carolyn Dietz and sophomore Andrea Hanas.

Buha holds a 3.917 GPA in Marketing and International Studies and was one of the most decorated athletes at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships earning seven medals. Buha earned gold in the 100 yard butterfly, tying for first with an NCAA B Cut time of 53.30, which is also a school record. Buha also set a school record in the 100 backstroke during the championships. Throughout the year, Buha won four 100 back titles, including at the 2018 House of Champions.

Treski is an Exercise Science major and has a 3.825 GPA. At the 2019 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, Treski won her second-straight 1650 free title with a time of 16:56.99, winning by almost five seconds. Treski also finished sixth in the championships in the 500 free and took home a 500 free title at this season's House of Champions.

Dietz has a 3.897 GPA in Health Sciences and took home third in the 1-meter competition at the league championships with a score of 261.75. Dietz also finished sixth in the 3-meter competition. During the season, Dietz had eight top-three finishes in the 1-meter and seven top-three finishes in the 3-meter, including a win against UIndy.

Hanas holds a 3.933 GPA in accounting and earned three medals as a member of relay teams at the Horizon League Championships. Her best solo finish at the championships was a fourth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.02. Hanas also finished sixth in the 100 free. During the season, Hanas earned two wins in both the 100 and 200 freestyle.

On the men's side, Dillon Stangeland earned a spot on the team with a 3.823 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. Stangeland took eighth in the men's 200 fly at the Swimming and Diving Championships and posted four-top three finishes in the 200 throughout the season. His best finish this season was a second-place finish in the 100 fly at the House of Champions. Stangeland finished third in that event three times this year.
