WOMEN'S TENNIS BEGINS CONFERENCE PLAY THIS WEEKEND

IUPUI will play three matches over the weekend including conference tilts against Oakland and Detroit Mercy.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's tennis has a busy weekend coming up as the Jags will play three matches, including opening up Horizon League play.

The Jags (3-9) begin their weekend with a match against Marian at 1 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 22) at the West Indy Racquet Club. Following the match against the Knights, IUPUI will begin conference play with a match against Oakland on Friday night beginning at 5 p.m.

After taking on the Golden Grizzlies, IUPUI will finish up its weekend hosting Detroit Mercy. The Jaguars and the Titans will meet at the West Indy Racquet Club on Sunday morning, beginning at 9 a.m.

The Jags will be starting their second season in the Horizon League and will be looking for their first league win after dropping all eight matches a season ago.

The last time the Jags took the court, IUPUI earned a 4-3 win over Tennessee State, snapping a five-match losing streak. The Jags took the doubles point against the Tigers and Sarah Lounsbury, Krystal Grubb and Samantha Hayward all picked up singles wins.

SCOUTING REPORT
Marian
Marian comes in to the match with a 13-7 record and the Knights beat Arcadia 9-0 the last time they took the court. The Knights have posted their most wins (14) in the No. 4 singles spot. Liza Lewis, Mary Mullaney and Teodora Simion all have 11 wins this season to lead Marian.

IUPUI and Marian met a season ago with IUPUI earning a 7-0 win.

OAKALND
The Golden Grizzlies are 6-6 on the season, losing 3-4 to Toledo the last time taking the court. Last season Oakland beat IUPUI 7-0 in Michigan. In the match, no Jaguar won more than three games in any set.

DETROIT MERCY
Detroit Mercy is 7-5 on the year but has dropped its last two matches. The Titans lost to Eastern Illinois and Chicago State and will play UIC on Saturday (Mar. 23) before coming to Indianapolis to take on the Jags. Ksenia Providokhina holds the best record for Detroit Mercy with a 9-3 record and two other Titans have three singles wins.

Last season, Detroit Mercy beat IUPUI 5-2 in Detroit.
