FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – IUPUI was overpowered by No. 12 Arkansas as the Jags lost 10-2 in five innings to the Razorbacks to close out play for the weekend.
Arkansas jumped on IUPUI in the first inning with a single to take a 1-0 lead but the Jags responded in the third. With one out and
Delainey Turner on first,
Maddie Keeley grounded out but moved Turner to second.
Emily Berrisford, who finished the day with a team-high two hits, singled and an error on Arkansas's second baseman let Turner score and tie the game.
The tie did not last long as another error proved costly for IUPUI in the bottom of the frame. After two outs to start the inning, a walk and single put a runner in scoring position. In the next at bat, an error in centerfield by
Jaida Speth brought home two runs for the Razorbacks.
After the Jags went in order in the top of the fourth, Arkansas found its rhythm at the plate, getting to starter
Lexi Lucas. A single started the inning and a hit batter put two runners on. After a strikeout an RBI double pushed the Arkansas lead to three. The Jags got the second out of the inning but a two-out rally put the game away. Another single to right field scored two more runs and a double and single brought home Arkansas's seventh run of the day.
The big shot came in the next at bat as Arkansas's Kayla Green hit a three-run home run to make it 10-1 in favor of the home team.
Needing at least two runs to stay in the game, IUPUI began the inning with a walk by Speth and a single that moved Speth to third. After a pop up and a fielder's choice, Speth scored on an error to make it 10-2. IUPUI's rally came up short after
Mandy Dallas popped up to second base to end the game.
