JAGUARS GO COLD FROM THREE IN 70-64 LOSS AT OHIO

IUPUI dropped its fourth-straight true road game of the season in the loss to the Bobcats.

ATHENS, Ohio – IUPUI finished up a six-game road stretch with a 70-64 loss at Ohio on Saturday (Dec. 7). Holly Hoopingarner and Macee Williams each had 13 points to lead the Jaguars.

Hoopingarner and Williams were the only two Jaguars to score in double-figures. It was the third-straight game that Hoopingarner has scored at least ten. Williams posted her fourth double-double of the season pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds. Morgan Allen added eight points for IUPUI and Agatha Beier had her best game of the season scoring seven.

"Ohio is a good basketball team that requires you to be disciplined in your closeouts and weak side help," said head coach Austin Parkinson. "We didn't do the best job of guarding one-on-one or rotating, which gave them a lot of open looks. I did think Agatha Beier had her best game of the year but some nights you don't shoot it well and today we couldn't get it going from three."

The Jags shot just over 40 percent from the field but struggled from deep, going 6-for-26 (23 percent) from beyond the arc. No Jaguar hit more than one three in the game. IUPUI hit their free throws when they got to the line going 6-for-7 from the stripe but Ohio held a huge advantage over the Jags going 16-of-21 from the charity stripe.

IUPUI took care of the ball better than in previous games this season, committing just 16 turnovers after averaging almost 20 turnovers a game in the first seven contests of the season. The Jags also had a 43-35 advantage on the boards and the Jags finished with 14 offensive rebounds leading to 10 second chance points. Rachel McLimore was second on the team with eight rebounds.

IUPUI (4-4) was down by one after first quarter but a tough second quarter put the Jaguars in a hole they could not overcome. Ohio (6-2) outscored the Jaguars 19-12 in the second frame and managed to keep the Jags at bay for the rest of the contest.

Hoopingarner made a basket to cut the Ohio lead to 24-21 three minutes in to the second but the Jaguar offense when silent as Ohio scored seven-straight points over the next two minutes to go up ten. Sydney Roule hit a layup to end the run but a three by the Bobcats made the deficit 11. The Jags started to pull back in to the game with a 6-0 run after baskets from Beier and Natalie Andersen and free throws by Morgan Allen but another three made it an eight-point game at the half.

In the third quarter, IUPUI was able to get the score down to six but Ohio always had an answer, pushing the lead to as much as 11 in the quarter and taking a nine-point lead in to the final frame.

Three-straight times in the fourth, Ohio pushed the lead to 12 but Hoopingarner answered twice with a jumper and Williams once as the Jags tried to keep the game close. Williams' layup sparked a run with a Destiny Perkins layup and Beier three that got IUPUI within five but Ohio hit a three to push the lead back to eight. Perkins answered with a three and IUPUI was down by five with 3:26 left but the Jags again would go cold on offense as Ohio stretched the lead to nine. Williams hit two free throws with 20 seconds left to make it a six-point game and IUPUI got a turnover on the next possession but a turnover by the Jags ended the game.

IUPUI could not stop Cierra Hooks who led the Bobcats with 25 points and 10 rebounds, going 9-for-13 from the free throw line. Gabby Burris scored 17 and grabbed nine rebounds for Ohio.
