INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI used a balance attack to get back in the win column, cruising to a 103-45 win over IU Northwest on Wednesday (Dec. 11). The Jags finished with five players in double figures and every player on the team scored at least two points.
IUPUI (5-4) put the game away early against the RedHawks, taking a 32-7 lead after the first quarter. It was the most points in a quarter for the Jags this season. With the score 5-2, IUPUI used a 12-0 run to take a commanding lead. The run started with a basket by
Macee Williams before
Holly Hoopingarner and
Natalie Andersen added threes. Back-to-back layups by Williams pushed the lead to 15-2 with 4:34 left in the quarter. Threes by
Ali Berg and
Sydney Roule capped off the quarter and put the Jags up 25 after ten minutes.
Williams led the way for IUPUI with 18 points in just 17 minutes played. The junior was 7-for-10 from the field and hit four of her five free throws.
Morgan Allen was second on the team with 17 points, finishing the game 8-for-12 from the field as the Jags dominated IU Northwest inside, scoring 58 points in the paint.
Andersen got back on track with 13 points, hitting five-of-six shots and going 3-for-4 from three point range. Both
Ali Berg and
Taylor Ramey got to play extended minutes in the game and delivered with each player scoring a career-high 10 points.
The Jags offense finished with a season-best 57.5 shooting percentage as the Jags shot over 60 percent in every quarter but the second. IUPUI also finished with season-high 24 assists on their 42 baskets, led by eight from
Agatha Beier and five each from
Destiny Perkins and
Katelyn O'Reilly. IUPUI also had a 21-9 advantage in second-chance points, finishing the game with 17 offensive rebounds.
Holding a 51-19 lead at the half, IUPUI opened the second half on a 14-0 run in the first five minutes. Andersen started the run with a three with baskets from Hoopingarner, Williams and
Rachel McLimore following. A three-point play by O'Reilly and a layup by Williams capped the rally for the Jags.
IUPUI's biggest lead of 61 came with 1:18 left in the game after a Perkins layup.
IUPUI's defense kept IU Northwest's leading scorer Breanna Boles to just six points on 3-for-8 shooting. The Jags forced 25 turnovers and blocked a season-high three shots.
