JAGS HEAD TO MILWAUKEE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT KICK

IUPUI (3-4-1, 2-0 HL) will take on the Panthers (5-5, 1-2 HL) on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 8:00 p.m.

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Sitting tied atop the Horizon League standings, the IUPUI men's soccer team will put its undefeated league mark on the line when it heads to Milwaukee (5-5, 1-2 HL) on Saturday night (Oct. 5). The Jags are one of three undefeated teams at the start of league play, joining Oakland (2-0-1) and UIC (2-0). 

MATCH INFO 
  • Saturday's match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. Central (8 Eastern) at Milwaukee's Engelmann Stadium. 
  • Saturday's match will be broadcast on ESPN3 and live stats will be available right at kickoff.  
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 1-3 all-time against Milwaukee after last year's 1-0 home win on Oct. 6. Alan Aguilar tallied the game-winner on a header in the 69th minute off a Fernando Borges assist. 
  • IUPUI is 0-2 in the two meetings in Milwaukee, having lost 3-2 in 2012 and 3-0 in 2017. 
JAG SCRATCHES
  • IUPUI has had a flair for the dramatic in Horizon League play, tipping Northern Kentucky 2-1 on a Yan Souza goal in the 89th minute and on Saturday, ousting Green Bay in double overtime on a Tommy Patacca header in the 104th minute. 
  • Seniors Souza and Alan Aguilar are tied with a team-high seven points (3 goals, 1 assist each) while Gianni Catenacci has a team-high three assists. 
  • IUPUI earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award on Oct. 3. 
  • Senior midfielder Pedro Valladao was named one of 30 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award on Sept. 23. He was one of just two selections from the Horizon League and was the lone selection from the Division I schools in the state of Indiana.  
  • Souza was named the Horizon League's Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16 after tallying the game-winner in the Jags' 2-1 win at Northern Kentucky in the game's 89th minute. Souza took a feed from Aguilar and drove a shot off an NKU defender and into the open net. Cincinnati-native Chris Workman also scored his first career goal in that game as he was playing just minutes from his hometown.
  • The Jaguars win at NKU was IUPUI's first regular season road win since September 2014 and first regular season league road win since October 2012. 
  • IUPUI launched year three of the Jaguars' 'Real Men Read' program earlier this fall, having worked with seven IPS Schools, spanning 16 fourth grade classrooms. 
  • Aguilar fueled the Jaguars' 2-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne, tallying goals in the 61st and 64th minutes. The winner came off assists from Catenacci and Fernando Borges and he added insurance just more than three minutes later by converting the fourth penalty kick of his career.  
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Quinn McCallion has been brilliant this season, registering a 0.95 goals against average and 29 saves in 756 minutes of action. He registered his lone shutout of the season against Purdue Fort Wayne. 
  • Patacca has only been off the field for a total of 19 minutes all season and took his first break of the year in the Green Bay game on Sept. 28. Catenacci is second on the team with 708 minutes of action. 
  • IUPUI went 5-10-4 last season and 4-3-1 in Horizon League play, earning a spot in the league's postseason tournament. The Jags then won the program's first postseason match since 2007 by upsetting Green Bay in the opening round. IUPUI later took eventual league champion UIC to penalty kicks in the semifinals round. 
  • The Jaguars were picked to finish seventh in the Horizon League, according to the league's preseason polls.  
  • IUPUI returns its top two scorers from a season ago in senior midfielder Alan Aguilar (11 points) and sophomore back Corey Goede (eight points). In addition, McCallion (1.22 GAA) returns in net and five other starters - Tommy PataccaCameron PetersenAnthony Saporito, Shives and Pedro Valladao - all return. 
  • All total, IUPUI returns 14 of the team's 17 goals from a season ago. 
  • Head coach Brian Barnett is in his fourth season on the Jaguars' sidelines. 
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE
  • Milwaukee is 5-5 overall and 1-2 in Horizon League play. The Panthers are coming off a 1-0 win over Wisconsin earlier this week. Milwaukee also has wins over Western Illinois, Drake, Detroit Mercy and Marquette this season.
  • Milwaukee is 3-1 at home this season with the lone loss having come by a 4-1 score to Wright State on Sept. 21. 
  • Vuk Latinovich has a team-high three goals while Evan Conway also has six points with two goals and two assists. Milwaukee has five different players with at least two goals and Joshua Kidder has a team-high four assists. 
  • In goal, Freddy Lorenzen has played all 906 minutes this season and amassed a 1.29 goals against average and 25 saves with a .658 save percentage. 
  • Milwaukee has been outscored 13-12 on the season, but outshot foes by a 119-115 margin.

UP NEXT
  • IUPUI will return home to host Bowling Green on Tuesday night (Oct. 8) as part of a home soccer doubleheader. The women's team will open play against Illinois State at 4:00 p.m., followed by the men's match with BGSU.
