INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swimming season began with the Jags taking on cross-town opponent UIndy on Thursday (Oct. 3). Both the men's and women's teams fell to the Greyhounds to start the campaign but IUPUI did pick up four individual event wins on the night.
The men fell to UIndy 158-104 and the women were downed by the Greyhounds 189-72.
Junior transfer
Jason Harary had a stellar night for the Jags, picking up first-place finishes in all three events he competed in. Harary started the night with a win in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 58.59 and swept the backstroke with a win in the 200, clocking in at 1:07.49. To close out his night, Harary took first in the 200 meter IM, touching the wall in 2:08.95.
The other win for IUPUI came from fellow junior
Mark Auger who won the 200 meter butterfly with a time of 2:07.11, edging out teammate
Tommy Lombardo who finished in 2:07.35.
The best individual finish on the women's side was a second with six different second-place finishes in the meet. Junior
Aubrey Wing was runner up in two events, finishing second in both the 100 meter breaststroke (1:14.09) and the 200 breaststroke (2:41.33).
Lauren Thompson also grabbed two second place finishes; first in the 100 back (1:03.94) and then in the 200 back (2:19.98).
Maggie Hatfield was second in the 200 free (2:08.64), and
Cassia Snyder was second in the 50 free.
IUPUI will be back in action at the Natatorium against Western Illinois and Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 19.
