NORMAL, Ill. – IUPUI women's tennis closed out its fall season with play at the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State over the weekend. The duo of
Gabrielle Ochalik and
Krystal Grubb won the consolation bracket during the tournament.
Ochalik and Grubb began their weekend with a 6-3 win over Northern Illinois before falling 6-3 to Illinois State in the semifinals. In consolation play, Ochalik and Grubb beat another team from Northern Illinois 6-3 before beating teammates
Sarah Lounsbury and
Samantha Hayward 6-3.
Also in doubles play, the freshmen duo of
Marta Krakowski and
Diya Matta lost in the first round 6-1 but picked up a 6-2 win over a team from Northern Illinois in consolation play.
In singles play, two Jags picked up wins, both coming in consolation play. After falling in the first round 6-3, 6-0, Ochalik beat a competitor from Northern Illinois 6-3, 6-3. The other singles win for the Jags came from Lounsbury who won a three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, also over an opponent from Northern Illinois.
