JAGUARS TO HOST UIC ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

IUPUI (7-3-1, 1-1 HL) to host midweek #HLWSOC contest at Carroll Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will host a key #HLWSOC showdown on Wednesday night (Oct. 2) when the Jaguars welcome UIC (6-3-1, 2-0 HL) to Carroll Stadium at 7:00 p.m.. IUPUI comes in off a 3-0 win at Youngstown State this past weekend while UIC already has Horizon League wins over Wright State and Northern Kentucky. 

MATCH INFO 
  • Wednesday's match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3 as Andrew Kappes (pxp) is on the call. Live stats will be available right at kickoff. 
THE SERIES
  • IUPUI is 3-1 all-time against UIC and won the past three meetings in the series. The series originated in 2014 as the Flames knocked off the Jaguars, 2-0 in Chicago. Since then, IUPUI has collected 4-1, 2-1 and 1-0 wins in 2015, 2017 and 2018, respectively. 
  • IUPUI is 1-1 in Chicago following last year's 1-0 road win. 
  • Elizabeth Bueckers tallied last year's game-winner in the 75th minute off assists from Miranda Ricks and Braegan Lyon. Sophia Lipka registered the shutout in goal, making four saves in 90 minutes of work.
JAG SCRATCHES
  • IUPUI's seven wins before Oct. 1 are tied for the third most in program history. The 2017 squad, which won the Horizon League Tournament, had 10 wins heading into the month of October, while the 2009 squad, which won The Summit League Tournament, won eight matches prior to Oct. 1. The 2016 squad also won seven matches prior to Oct. 1 en route to a 9-7-3 finish. 
  • Bueckers has scored a goal in four of the Jaguars' last five games and pulled even with Valentine Pursey for the team lead in goals (4). Pursey has a team-high 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) and both Pursey and Bueckers have a game-high two game-winners. 
  • Pursey earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 16 after contributing to four of the Jaguars' six goals in 3-1 wins over Belmont and Valparaiso. Pursey had two assists in the Jaguars' 3-1 win over Belmont and followed with two goals in the win at Valpo, including the game-winner. It was her fourth career multi-goal game as she moved her career totals to 21 goals and 11 game-winners. 
  • Redshirt freshman AP Woodall was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, recording a 1.00 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Jaguars' contests against EKU (Sept. 5) and Central Michigan (Sept. 8). She dialed up a scoreless half in the win over EKU and yielded her first goal of the year on a PK in the Jaguars' 2-1 loss at CMU, snapping her personal scoreless streak at 276 minutes to start her career.
  • For the season, Woodall has allowed just two goals in 470 minutes, good for a 0.38 goals against average. 
  • The win at Valparaiso was the 200th of the career of head coach Chris Johnson. Johnson has won 119 matches on the Jaguars' sidelines and collected 81 wins at UIndy from 1994-2002. Johnson is the program's all-time leader in wins (120) and has taken IUPUI to two NCAA Tournaments (2009 & 2017). 
  • IUPUI is 7-3-1 on the season, having blanked six opponents this year. The Jags have shutout Toledo, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville and Youngstown State this year and yielded just 10 goals in 11 games.
  • IUPUI is 3-0 this season against Missouri Valley Conference foes with road wins at SIU, Valpo and Evansville.  
  • Beside Bueckers and Pursey, freshman Maya Lacognato (3 goals) and junior back Natalie McNally (2 goals) also have multiple goals. Pursey leads the team with three assists while Ricks, Emma Chambers and Megan Wurth have two apiece. 
  • Pursey has moved into sixth on the program's all-time list with 21 career goals, 11 of which have been game-winners. 
  • The Jaguars was picked to finish fourth in the Horizon League preseason polls
  • Senior goalkeeper Sophia Lipka registered her 18th career shutout in the season opening win over Toledo, putting her three shy of tying IUPUI Hall of Famer Jamie Farrell's all-time record of 21. 
  • Junior defender Natalie McNally has played a team-high 949 minutes in the defensive third this season, 100 more than Pursey's 817, which ranks second on the team. McNally has played 93 percent of the team's minutes so far this season.
  • The Jags return their top four scorers from a season ago in Elizabeth Bueckers (14 pts), Ricks (11), Pursey (10) and Emma Chambers (8).
  • Lipka was the 2017 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and is on pace to break the program's all-time record in shutouts. 
  • IUPUI returns 10 of 11 starters from last season, including the quintet of Lipka, Pursey, Chambers, McNally and Jenna Sterr, who started all 19 matches a season ago. 
SCOUTING UIC
  • UIC is 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play. The Flames have yielded just four goals in 10 games and pitched seven shutouts, including three straight entering Wednesday's match. 
  • Lena Kurz has started eight of UIC's 10 matches in goal, posting a 0.36 goals against average and six of their seven shutouts. Kurz has 29 saves and a .906 save percentage. 
  • Emma Main has a team-high three goals, all game-winners, while Emily Kavanaugh has two goals and two assists. Keri Birkenhead and Jackie Santibanez each have two goals for the Flames. 
  • UIC has outshot opponents 129-94, for a 3.5 shot/game margin.
