INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI women's tennis will hit the road over the weekend for two matches. The Jags will take on Western Michigan and Valparaiso to finish up their three-game road trip that began their season.
The Jags (0-1) will look to bounce back from a 4-3 loss at Illinois State to begin their season, with a match at Western Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 23). The match against the Broncos will begin at 10:30 a.m. To finish up the weekend, IUPUI will take on Valparaiso in Michigan City, Ind. The match against the Crusaders will start at 10 a.m.
IUPUI fell just short in their first match of the season against Illinois State but got wins from three freshmen.
Meghan Bernard earned a straight-set win at the No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Both
Gabrielle Ochalik and
Sarah Lounsbury earned three set wins after dropping the first set. Ochalik won her No. 2 singles match, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, and Lounsbury won at No. 3, 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.
Western Michigan comes in to the match with a 2-1 record, including a season-opening victory over Oakland. The Broncos are coming in to the match having beaten DePaul 6-1 on Sunday (Jan. 20). IUPUI met Western Michigan last season with the Broncos taking the match 7-0.
Valparaiso began its season with a 7-0 loss at Toledo and will play Butler the day before taking on the Jags. Last season, IUPUI hosted Valparaiso, falling to the Crusaders 7-0.
